Dear Ms. Hartjen,
I am most eager to contribute the skills that I have to the World History position at Dysart High
School. As a recent graduate from Arizona State University, I have my Bachelors in Secondary
Education in the content area of History. My ability to build positive relationships with students
and peers, variety of teaching experiences and recent coursework in curriculum and instruction
strategies, and integration and writing across curricula will enable me to be a great asset to the
Dysart Unified School District.
During my placement as a student teacher at Valley Vista High School, I learned and applied a
broad range of teaching strategies. For example, I constructed my lesson plans by first consulting
the Common Core Standards for clear objectives and learning goals. I incorporated parent
volunteers into classroom activities whenever possible and integrated technology to engage
learners. I implemented a variety of assessments to ensure evidence of successful learning
throughout each unit. Above all, I encouraged students to assume a very active responsibility for
their own learning. Every one of the students knew what we were learning, why we were
learning it, and how it applied to the world beyond the classroom.
I would like to contribute my skills and experience to this World History position and I would be
happy to discuss in further detail how I can accomplish this. I look forward to discuss with you
how my experience and abilities can best meet the goals of your district. Thank you for your
consideration.

Sincerely,

Robert Drey III

Dear Parents/Guardians,
My name is Robert Drey III and I will be your childs World History teacher for the upcoming
school year. I am very excited to meet all of your children and guide them through their freshman
year of high school.
First, I would like to introduce myself. This is my first year as a fulltime teacher. However, I do
have multiple hours of teaching experience from student teaching. I earned my Bachelors degree
from Arizona State University, where I also completed Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College
ITeachAZ program.
My teaching experience has helped me develop a set of beliefs about how I can best help
students learn and grow. First, I believe in order to effectively teach my students, I must know as
much about them as possible. Therefore, I will look forward to getting to know you and your
family. My philosophy of teaching is that all students deserve an education. Teachers do not get
to handpick their students and decide on what type of students they are going to teach.
Classrooms will have diverse students who will learn in different ways and it is the teachers
responsibility to find out how their students learn. Every student has a different story; it is up to
the teacher to read those stories and find the meaning behind them to help the students. I look
forward to teaching your child and finding out their way of learning.
I will be teaching your child World History from the prehistoric times all the way to the 20th
century. For your child to be successful in my class, they will have to learn the guidelines for
success which are preparation, responsibility, integrity, dedication, and effort. I expect all my
students to be prepared to learn in my classroom, which means they must arrive on time with
their supplies. I expect my students to follow the rules in the classroom and complete their
homework on time. I expect my students to be respectful to others and to themselves. If your
child follows the guidelines they will be successful inside and outside my classroom. As
parents/guardians I expect you to encourage your child to be a leader and a positive role model
and check to see how they are doing in the classroom.
If you have any concerns please feel free to contact me. Communication is a huge part of your
childs success. If you have any questions/concerns, would like to visit the classroom, schedule a
conference, or volunteer to help out, you can contact me at (623) 523-7533 or email me at
rdrey@asu.edu.
Once again, welcome to 9th grade World History. I know that together we can make this a
wonderful school year.
Sincerely,

Mr. Drey

Dear Ms. Griffin,

I would like to discuss your son Chris. He has great social skills. He works wonderfully with his
classmates and it is easy for him to make friends. However, his constant talking in my classroom
has had a negative effect on his grade. To clarify I would first like to go over the rules and
consequences in my classroom.
The five classroom rules are:
1. Only one person will speak at a time and appropriate language is to be used at all times.
2. Hands, feet, and objects are to be kept to oneself.
3. Only materials needed for the lesson are on the desk.
4. Electronics are to be put away when class begins.
5. Only the teacher dismisses the class.
The Consequences for breaking the rules in the classroom are in order of offense:
First Offense- Warning/Conference
Second Offense- Call Home
Third Offense- Detention
Fourth Offense- Administrative Referral
*The teacher reserves the right to skip steps based upon the severity of the violation.
Chris has a severe problem with following rule 1. At times he speaks when I am giving
instruction or when one of his classmates is answering a question. Since he is talking through
instruction and talking when one of his classmates is answering the questions, he does not
comprehend the information. Since starting the new unit on the Cold War last week, he has yet to
turn in two assignments. He also received an F on his last concepts and terms quiz. With the
missing assignments and his failing grade on the quiz, Chris is now failing my class.
There are solutions to improve Chriss situation. The first thing that I will do is move Chriss seat
in my classroom to the desk closest to my desk, so I can keep a better eye on him. Secondly,
Chris can come to tutoring after school in my classroom to finish his homework and retake the
last concepts and terms quiz. And lastly, I can provide you biweekly updates to let you know
how Chris is doing in my class.
I know through hard work and dedication Chris can pass my class. If you have any concerns
please feel free to contact me. Communication is a huge part of your childs success. If you have
any questions/concerns, would like to visit the classroom, schedule a conference, or volunteer to
help out, you can contact me at (623) 523-7533 or email me at rdrey@asu.edu.
Sincerely,

Mr. Drey
