Volunteer Experience:
Winter-Spring 2016: Full time internship at Twin Towers Senior Living Community- The
Connection as a Wellness Intern. Completed over 400 hours of experience observing,
assisting, and working independently at The Connection.

Worked in the fitness room and assisted anyone who needed help
Maintained the fitness room by keeping it clean, orderly, and following all
rules and procedures
Completed individual instruction (personal training) with individuals
Monitored the aquatic office and pool for safety and to assist anyone who
may need it
Took pool chemical readings, attendance for water classes, and open swim
Shadowed the therapy department for a total of 33 hours at Twin Towers to
observe and learn skills for my future career
Attended Twin Towers events/meetings and represented The Connection

and assisting between Twin Towers Senior Living Community- The Connection Wellness
Center and Cincinnati Rehabilitation Center/ Chiropractic.
Twin Towers Senior Living Community- The Connection:
Observed in the fitness room
Assisted with individual instruction of individuals during their programs
Watched and participated in fitness classes such as water aerobics and tai chi

Cincinnati Rehabilitation Center/ Chiropractic:
Mentored by a licensed chiropractor and business owner

Summer 2014 -2015: Camp counselor volunteer for 1 week/ 8 hours per day at Camp
Odakota a day camp for disabled children created and run by occupational therapists.

Worked with the children on getting active any way that they could
Observed occupational therapists working with children
Provided healthy snacks for the children at break and lunch time
Created activities during arts and crafts that taught the children to use finetuned movements with their hands
Played different games that focused on hand eye coordination
Worked with the children on effective ways to handle their anger or
frustration about an activity they couldnt accomplish immediately

Spring 2015: Volunteered and worked on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota
for 8 days over spring break with the nonprofit organization Re-Member.

Gained firsthand knowledge and experience from the Lakota people


Witnessed the extreme poverty, alcoholism, death from health issues, and
suicide rates of this third world country within our own developed America.
Learned about strong traditional Lakota culture and the historical impacts
that have led to where they are today
Built outhouses for people on the reservation because there is no running
water in most locations
Skirted and repaired trailers for the people to keep warm in the winter
Built wheelchair ramps for those disabled due to health reasons such as
untreated diabetes from lack of healthy food on the Reservation

Winter 2013-2014: Shadowed occupational therapists in two different settings and


locations.
Indian Hill Primary School: 5 hours

Worked with an in school childrens occupational therapist


Taught the children the correct way to hold a pencil using muscle
coordination
Worked with them on learning the alphabet and the correct way to write
letters
Played sensory games with the children to get them to focus on and learn
how to use their motor skills/ reflexes

University Hospital: 8 hours

Observed a professional hospital occupational therapist and physical


therapist
Met with 7 patients who recently had surgery and spoke with them on how
they were feeling
Worked with them on the proper ways of getting out of bed, using the
bathroom, walking, and dressing
Taught them the correct way to move so they would not reinjure or affect the
surgery
