The Torture Warrent

Introduction
The topic of torture seems to have many different viewpoints
depending on who you are. Through time and research, I came to
the conclusion that its tough to pick one side or the other because
of all the different roles it can play. I think it is necassary for the
US Government to implement a new law that has very specific
guidelines and rules regarding the act of torture. This new warrant
could be a huge step for the US Government as I believe it will
make many people begin to agree instead of continueing to butt
heads on the situation.

Impact of Research
The role that research played throughout this paper was huge for
me. My view points changed once I started the process. At first, I
was for the act of torture because I only really viewed it from one
perspective and that was that it saved peoples lives. Throughout
doing the research, it slowly began to shift my opinion because of
all the negative results that torture can have. While still
remembering my original thoughts, I came to a middle ground for
my conclusion. Instead of choosing one side or the other, I came
up with my own conclusion that I think would be helpful and
beneficial to the US Government.

Definition of Torture under the Torture

Warrant
Though there are many broad definitions out there that can be
considered Torture. If the Torture Warrant were to be put into
place, it would need a much more narrow and specific definition.
The definition of what qualifies of Torture under the Torture
Warrant should be:
"The practices that qualify as torture are anything that
threatens imminent death, could result in prolonged mental harm,
and are engaged in under the color law."

Roles of Torture
Pro

HAS THE POTENTIAL TO SAVE THE LIVES OF THOUSANDS OF INNOCENT

PEOPLE!

I capitalized that whole sentence to show the importance that this

pro has regarding the situation. The reason listed above is the only reason I
am on the fence about torture because of how huge of a role torture could
play. Imagine if things like 9/11 or the Boston Marathon could've been
prevented. Thinking of those things makes you want to reside with the acts
of torture.

Con's
Victims can come out traumatized and
dehumanized from what went on behind closed
doors.
Torture isn't always effective in terms of reducing
the amount of attacks.
It gives victims a new incentive upon being
released which also leads to the death of innocent
peoples lives(They want to seek revenge).
Causes victims to live their lives dark and
helplessly feeling like they have no purpose to
their life.

Pros vs Cons
Throughout researching the cons of torture, I came across a lot of information

Perspective based on Pros and Cons

As you can tell from the last slide, there were much more negative
affects that torture has than positive ones. Though if you weighed
them out from an open minded perspective, im sure you will agree
that the pros and cons even out. If something has the ability to
save the lives of many people, then it shouldnt be banned
completely. This is why you have the Torture Warrant, to allow the
act of torture when it has a necessary and has a probable cause.

Rules and Guidelines of the Torture Warrant

First of all, the grant of torture will be done by a case by case basis with a panel of judges who decided if the act
should be gone through with.
If permission is granted:
1. The act of torture must be committed on rightful grounds.
2. The person who is commiting the act of torture must have legitimate authority.
3. There must be an appropriate and reasonable purpose fo committing the act of torture(Similar to what Is
mentioned in the first sentence of the slide about how It must pass through a board of people/judges in order
to see if it is allowed).
4. You have to review and see how reasonable the chance of success will be. You have to be almost positive that
the reason you are torturing will be accomplished.
5. The last rule is that medical care must be granted after the torture has been completed. No matter what is
wrong with the person whether it is physical or mental, it must be treated professionally

What the Torture Warrant will do:

The Torture Warrant will help protect people as a whole. It plays
both sides by:
1) Potentially helping save the lives of thousands of Americans.
2) By protecting those that have the possibility of being wrongfully
tortured.
It will cause a lot less falsely accused people of being tortured for
things that they have not did or information that they do not know
while still having the leverage of using the act to save the
innocent peoples lives.

Conclusion
Throughout all my research doing this project, I came to the
conclusion of choosing a somewhat middle ground regarding the
topic. I tried to research more and more things regarding torture but
couldnt grasp the fact to choose one side or the other. As for my
middle ground, I mentioned creating the Torture Warrant. Which is a
law that would protect the rights of the person being torture but also
protect the lives of many innocent people. When talking about
torture, the outcomes of it are just to big and risky which makes it
nearly impossible to pick one side or the other. If the torture warrant
allowed the act to continue, it must be done in a professional and
safe way.
