Aloha Haaheo Parents & Guardians!

My name is Melissa Kim and I am a student teacher from Chaminade University. I began my
student teaching period at Castle High School at the beginning of Quarter 3 with all five of Mrs.
Yango-Aus class periods. I intermittently taught her classes throughout the quarter, and I taught
the majority of Unit 3, which spanned the last four weeks of Quarter 3.
I am now in the phase of my student teaching period where I will take over the full course load
of Mrs. Yango-Aus classes. This period will span from Tuesday 3/29/16 through Friday, 5/6/16.
During this period, I will be responsible for all instruction and grading for your childs English
class.
Mrs. Yango-Au will have the same authority and position in the classroom during my student
teaching. I am informing students of this transition over the course of the first two days of
Quarter 4. I am informing them that I will be the one to address any questions or concerns about
assignments, lessons, and grading and that Mrs. Yango-Au will still be present in all classes but
that she will refer students to me accordingly. Similarly, if you have any questions or concerns
regarding your child, you may continue to use Jupiter Grades as a means of communication.
Your correspondence will go directly to Mrs. Yango-Au and she and I will address any of those
needs.
I want to assure you that my teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that teachers have the
responsibility to guide, encourage, and instruct students in reaching their highest potential. In
other words, my students success and growth is the driving force for my teaching.
One of my goals as a teacher is to create the most positive learning environment in the
classroom. For my student teaching period, I have designed a set of Classroom Procedures and
Policies that will encourage that type of environment. I have attached the Procedures and
Policies so that you are informed and aware of the expectations I hold for your child and myself.
Lastly, I want to share with you that I am a firm believer in open communication when it comes
to the well-being of your child! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or
concerns.
Sincerely,

Melissa Kim
