Kyle Roberts
White America discussion
The author dives into the controversial topic of racism and sexism in a
different light in an attempt to make it universally understandable. He isnt
afraid to grab topics deemed awkward or too uncomfortable and expose them
for what they are.
His gift is heavy because he is aware it is something not everyone is
willing to accept. He points out that thinking in a different way that may seem
to negatively label you is not all too enticing but is necessary to fully grasp
the pain and misfortune in which he describes.
Undoing something, and or re-kindling something already dealt with in a
social context. He intends to make the comparison to working backwards
instead of progressing forward towards actually ending racism and sexism,
which at the time seems virtually impossible considering the majority is
directly benefiting from said isms. He wants you to open up. Be real.
Yes
Look at not only yourself but your existence in a different light. Challenge the
norms giving you a privilege you werent consciously aware of but are
enjoying subconsciously. These imaginary lines painted between people
aiding some while wrecking others need to be erased to fully establish true
equality. The type of equality people have been fighting for hundreds of
years.
He looks to destroy the idea that just because you dont have the same
hatred in your heart that the men did all those years ago doesnt mean you
are not a racist. As you benefit, and dont argue, you allow such abominations
to continue to take place.

Todays reading actually appealed to me in a significant way, something I didnt

expect to endure as I began sifting through the article. The author has shown me
something about myself that I never knew, and or even took into consideration. I
am a racist, and just as much a sexist. Though unintentionally its a disgrace
nonetheless. Without actually making a single physical contribution to such
ignorant thinking, and though I preach equality as any good hearted person
would, I am indirectly keeping the problem in place while benefiting directly. How
is this possible? Am I blind or just uneducated? Its much more complex than
that. The suffering and discrimination still taking place today acts as the fine
print in a constitution my ancestors signed for me. At birth, you have your
imagination, your innocence, and whether or not you know it you also have the
racism and sexism instilled within you. The gift given to me by the author is
priceless. He gave me sight, when I was too occupied with how I felt to
understand.
