Preface
On Twitter we get excited if someone follows us. In real life we get really scared and
run away (unknown).

Throughout this project, I am going to discuss the life of Aurora. Her life story begins at
the age of twelve. She is dating a young gentleman named Phillip. Phillip is also twelve during
this time. Her mothers name is Leah and her fathers name is Stefan. Auroras story is a
combination of two different characters that have been researched. Both characters suffered from
depression. None of their family members acknowledged any of the signs. Their depression was
enhanced by social media just like Auroras. Aurora story mainly center on feelings of wanting to
fit in and wanting to be beautiful (societal views of beauty). Many girls her age have the same
problems. She is not the only one. Therefore, in this project, we are going to discuss the negative
effects that social media has on young women like Aurora.

There were a total of five different participants that completed my survey. Out of these
five people, one of them was diagnosed with depression, and is currently taking medication for
depression. This means that according to my results 20% of people suffer from depression. That
is about 9.3% more than the research conducted by Egbert, Miraldi, and Murniadi. However, my
survey only had a few participants. While Egbert, Miraldi, and Murniadi research was conducted
on a large scale of people.

Problems at Home
Dear Dr. Hubert: I think that my daughter
might be showing signs of depression. She is
a very moody young woman. She goes from
being all happy to being mad. Her mood
swing from one emotion to another in a
matter of minutes. There no warning that
point to her changing her mood. It kind of
just happens. The other day she was getting
ready for school. Everything was going fine.
After about thirty minutes, she came running
down stairs saying that she was not feeling
good. I knew that she was lying. I could tell
that it was something else. She looked fine
except for the bright red rings around her
eyes. Instead of making the matters worse, I
decided to not question her. I let her play
hooky for the day. When she has days like
this I become very concerned. I am not sure
how to approach her about the problem. Can
you help me?
Concerned Parent
Dear Concerned Parent: You need to
determine whether or not you daughter has
depression. According to Kathryn Murphys
there are many subtle signs of depression
which include depressed or irritable mood,
diminished interest or loss of pleasure in
almost all activities, sleep disturbance,
weight change or appetite disturbance,
decreased concentration or indecisiveness,
thoughts of suicide or death, psychomotor
agitation or retardation, fatigue or loss of

Dear Diary,
These past couple of days have been the worst ever. Today I told mom I was
not feeling good, so she let me stay home. She totally believed me. Obviously I
am not sick.
Phillip and I have been dating for a couple of months now. Well for the past
week now Phillip has been asking me to text him some pictures. I am not
talking about the cute selfie picture that I always send him. No he wanted
nude pictures. I was like no. However, later on that day I talked to my friends
Flora, Fauna, and Merrywhether. Both of my friends told me that Everyone
was doing it. This made rethink my decision. So I decided to send him the
pictures.
During lunch I was walking down the hallway, and I felt like everyone was
staring at me. After I bought my lunch, I sat down with my friends. They told
me that my pictures had been sent to EVERYONE. I felt my heart drop. I was
so totally pissed at Phillip for sending those pictures.
Before I even knew it, I was running into Phillip. I told him that it was over. I
told him how mad I was with him. I asked him How could he do something
like this to me. He told me that Diablo asked to borrow his phone because
his died. I told him that he could use my phone. That asshole found the
pictures and sent them to everyone.
While I was trying to get ready for school I was on Facebook. I saw that
Maleficent was calling me a slut and a whore. She said that now the whole
school knew who I really was. She made me cry. She is such an awful person.
There is no way I can EVER go back to school with everyone looking at me like
I was a freak. So I asked mom if I could stay home, and she let me.
I dont know what to do anymore. Everyone hates me.
Aurora
The End
Anecito 8
This next entry is a suicide letter that was written to Aurora. This letter is addressed to her
parents Leah and Stefan. Both of her parents are delirious to their daughters condition. Aurora
has been suffering from depression for a while. She was diagnosed with depression while she
was in college. One of her professor noticed that her grades all of a sudden started slipping, so
the teacher asked Aurora why her grades were slipping. After this conversation with Aurora, the
professor sent her to the guidance counselors office. The guidance counselor diagnosed her with
depression.
After college, Aurora went to live in Manhattan. She was an investment banker for a bank
in New York. She was a very good at her job. During her free time, she would organize charities
for some of her favorite charities. She had made many friends while living in Manhattan. Aurora
felt like everything was going good for her after college, so she decided that she no longer
needed to take her medication. On her day off from work Aurora was in her apartment building.
She was having a depressive episode. She was reading her diary and found the entry from April
21, 2001. She became very depressed while reading her diary.
About an hour of contemplating life. Aurora decided to walk up the stairs of her building.
Once she got up to the 40th floor of her building, she jumped.
I wrote a brief explanation of why Aurora committed suicide because this suicide letter is
not going to talk about any of this. According to Barnes, Lawal-Solarin, and Lester explain that
suicide notes are typically quite brief and often do not throw any light on the psychodynamics
of the writer (671). Even though Auroras note is not very long, she did keep a diary of her life.
Even though diaries written by individuals who later commit suicide are rare (Barnes, DH, FW
Lawal-Solarin, and D Lester, 672).

Aurora Miller
By Raquel Anecito
Aurora, 27, was an investment banker in
Manhattan, New York, at Bridgehampton
National Bank. She died on October 15 at
Dream Big Apartment complex in

Miss Aurora was born in Syracuse, New

Modern Medicine
Aurora was working for Bridgehampton National Bank in Manhattan, New York. She
was an investment banker. She was very good at her job. She enjoyed working for the
Bridgehampton National Bank. During her free time, she would organize charities for a select
few organizations. Even though Auroras life story looked good on paper, her life was not all that
great. Aurora suffered from depression from a young age. She was not diagnosed with depression
until she was in college. She did not want to tell her family about her conditions. Instead she
decided to bear this burden alone. Therefore, it was a surprise to her family to find out that she
was suffering from depression. They did not come to this conclusion until after Aurora decided
to end her life (Colino, par. 1-2).
After working at the bank for three years, Aurora decided to go off of her medication.
This resulted in Aurora having a depressive episode. On December 18 Aurora decided to jump
off of her apartment building in Manhattan. The building was over forty stories. Her death was
instantaneous. Once she was discovered on the pavement, the medical examiner was called in.
He made a medical examination report for Aurora. In his report, he stated that Aurora committed
suicide, and there was no foul play.
