The two careers I have chosen for this assignment is nursing and teaching. I chose
nursing because this is my dream career that hopefully I will become after graduation. I
chose teaching as the career I wanted as a child.
The term nurse is very general and the responsibilities vary depending on what
field of nursing you are involved in. In my situation I want to become an emergency
room nurse or neonatal nurse. Responsibilities of an emergency room nurse would be to
go to patients and collect their symptoms and medical history for the physician, record
vital signs, cleans and bandages small wounds, and works directly under the physician.
((n.d.). Retrieved 2015, from https://www.ghresources.com/wpcontent/uploads/2014/06/ER-Nurse.pdf ) Types of writing that could be involved in this
type of nursing would be charting while taking patients symptoms and medical history or
writing summaries in medical files of the type of treatment and discharge papers.
Responsibilities of a neonatal nurse would be working in nurseries that provide
different levels of care to babies who range in condition from healthy newborns to
premature babies or babies who have serious birth defects, severe illnesses or other lifethreatening problems. (Greenwood, B. (n.d.). Retrieved 2015, from
http://everydaylife.globalpost.com/roles-responsibilities-neonatal-nurse-2169.html) Types
of writing that can be involved in this type of nursing would be recording the infants vital
signs as well as the mothers and discharge papers.
Important writing skills that would be most proficient to nursing in general would
be: understanding and knowing how to use medical terminology, knowing how to
summarize, accurate, organized, concise, factual, and objective.
My childhood career choice was teaching. There are many different levels to teach
at such as elementary, middle/high school, or college. Although I feel as if the
responsibilities are mostly the same. The responsibilities of a teacher would be to prepare
lesson plans, teaching classes, and grading and evaluating students. Types of writing
involved in this career would be writing lesson plans, revising and grading students
assignments.

Important writing skills that would be most proficient to teaching would be to

write to communicate, proven a point, learn, understand, constructive feedback, and to
question. I think these skills are very important in evaluating students assignments
because these skills allows the teacher to communicate with the student about questions
they might have about their answers or to give constructive feedback so the student can
improve for the next assignment.
In conclusion, all career choices have some sort of writing skills involved. Some
careers depend heavily on it while others only use writing slightly. For the careers I have
chosen writing is used heavily in both scenarios from medical charts or preparing for
class.
