Step 1 - Needs Assessment and Goal Selection - Describe your selected professional
growth areas of focus, as well as information from your self-assessments that supports
your selections. Link each area of focus to a specific standard and benchmark.
Residency candidates must focus on the professional level benchmarks.
Professional Growth Area(s) of Focus/Goals: Based on your self-assessment, identify 3 goals
(Either a core performance or an essential knowledge).
1. I need to grow in knowledge of the core standards and understanding the content I need to
teach to the students. I need to be more hands on with students to learn what they know and then
test my ability to teach the learners to assure mastery of the content.
2. I want to practice more methods of assessments so that I can understand and see what works
for me and the subject contents that I will teach. But, especially I want to do what will be best for
the learners and their ability to understand the concepts I will teach.
3. I am competent in writing lessons, but would like more practice in the classroom. Young
students act different then college students to a lesson. I would like more practice in the classroom
to develop my skills in engages students to ensure my planning is adequate.
Rationale What will you be able to do as a result of your professional growth that you and are
not able to do now?
1. I would be confident I am meeting the core standards the state and government require.
2. I would be able to assess the students quickly with confidence I am not wasting their time and
applying unnecessary stress on their already stressful lives.
3. I would be able to plan lessons in a shorter period of time with more confidence.
Proposed Evidence: Briefly describe the evidence that you will collect. Evidence may include
reflections on articles or conferences attended, completed activities, technology projects, etc
I will write a reflection on my research of the standards, the interview with my service learning
teacher, and the class lesson after I teach it.
