Your Learnings as a Coachee: What did you learn about yourself from the
assessments and coaching session that you were aware of, that surprised you and that
made you want to make changes?

All the test results basically corresponds to the estimation I made on myself. After coming
to US, due to the language barriers and cultural differences, I cannot make good use of
my communication ability, especially after I learned the postgraduate courses, the speed
and difficulties of class let me aware the differences between my students and I and forget
what kind of a person I am. Through this test I find my potential and capability still exist,
but is just hided by myself. As a coachee, the answer I have sought has been the biggest
problem I face at current stage, that is, for a foreigner, how to get to know the American
culture and integrate into the American society. But through coach I gradually
understand only time and great efforts can solve this problem. Though it cannot be solved
within short time, but I should constantly seek opportunities to make progress step by
step.
Your Goals: What goals will you be working on and by when?
Make an appointment with my academy advisor every month.

II.

Your development as a coach: How will accomplishing these goals help you be a
better coach?
The contact with Americans is the best approach to improve my perception of the
American culture for me at current stage, the conversation with the professor can
improve my academic level and stimulate my potential ability.

III.

What did you find about your types can help you as a coach? How can the
behaviors that showed up in your type possibly be challenges? What will you do
to compensate?
For example, Im a high Judger and Focused and this will help me ensure that I get to
the goal-setting part and manage the time with clients. I need to watch out to not push
too fast through the session in order to ensure the closure I seek. Im a high Extrovert
and this will help me create energy and enthusiasm and I need to make sure I dont
interrupt my coachee and give the person space to process at his/her speed.
Through MBTI test I know I am ESFP type, the same as the description, I love to get
along with people, Im enthusiastic toward life, and I can make things more interesting
through sincerity and jokes. Im easygoing and friendly, and I have strong adaptability. I
am good at communication and love to be focus of peoples attention. I think in the
training of coach, this specialty which seems be a merit can possibly be the part I should
improve, because I always unconsciously turn the topic to myself when communicating
with others, hope people pay attention to me rather than others. As a coach, I should put
all my attention on client rather than myself. Another point is shown obviously on me, I
can hardly work independently, especially long time work and study, do not like prepare
in advance and have difficulty in organizing time. I will change these shortcomings
gradually, make full preparation, act according to schedules and develop my independent
working ability.

IV.

Literature: What are two things you will apply from Leadership from the Inside Out
and two things you will apply from Happy for No Reason for your own development?
What about for your clients development? Please refer to specific concepts.

This is a book talking how to cultivate and improve ones leadership, just as the book
name says, the development and improvement of leadership is basically formed through
practice, and there is no shortcut. Except sticking to self-discipline by following the right
method, constantly conduct self-reflection and modification so as to improve my personal

nature. Then whats left is to serve the society wholeheartedly.

The process of reading this book is just the truth the writer intends to tell us in this book:
the improvement of leadership is a process of knowing oneself, finding oneself and
surpassing oneself. Then you should also constantly apply the self-consciousness and
self-transcendence to the team and company, spread its power to more wide space, if you
can do this constantly, then your leadership is getting closer to excellence.
The core ideology if this book is that leadership is not mysterious, everyone can be
equipped, if it must be defined with the simplest words that are: sincerity, courage and
love.

The book Happy for No Reason has taught me many practical methods and help me keep
optimistic, though there are more approaches to get information and entertainment,
peoples happiness index is getting lower, there are many reasons for this, for example,
the enlargement of the gap between the rich and the poor, the increase of living pressure,
etc. We can comprehend the most basic principle about happiness from the title of this
book--from inside out, many things have sequences, some sequences are formed under
the guidance of principle, but the natural principle cannot be violated. Happiness is
generated from inside out, no one can obtain happiness by simply pursuing for the
outside things. This book is exactly the book that teaches us the real happiness which is
not affected by outside things.

The progress of my client is reflected in her facing up our conversation, because she and
I are relatively younger and lack social experience, at the beginning, she did not treat me
as the real coach but a friend in our conversation, after three times coach practice, she
began to think about the questions I left he carefully. Since we had slow progress in the
very beginning, her progress is not displayed totally yet, both of us need more training.
V.

Assessments: What did you learn about assessments (big picture) and specifically? At
this point, which ones do you plan on using and how/when in the coaching process?
I realize personality can hardly be changed by nature, there is no bad or good
personality, we can give full play of merits and avoid shortcomings through training.
It helps us analyze ourselves more objectively and improve ourselves. We can stop
despising and escaping after the true recognition of ourselves, face and make up for

the shortcomings bravely. Considering the trust relationship just built between my
client and I, I decide to introduce MBTI test to her at the end of our next meeting.
VI.

Coaching Groups: What did you learn as a coach and observer in your coaching
groups? Were there trends in what your classmates did well and areas they could have
improved?
As a coach in the coaching groupI understand what kind of work coach is though
contact, and improve my expression ability while communicating with people.
As an observer in the coaching group, I can understand what is a more standard coach
by hearing the coach practice of students who are planning to obtain the coach
qualification certificate.

In Prep for the Practices Course April 10-11

During our next session, David Berry and I will go over different aspects of running your
own practice as a coach. Whether you do this internally for a company or externally as a
consultant, it is important to have a business plan. Marketing is one part of the plan. In
preparation for our class, please paste below one or two websites of coaches, whether
U.S. based or globally based that inspire you. Describe what specifically stands out to
you from this coachs approach and companys website.
