DESCRIPTION OF CONTENT AND CONTENT TYPE (Fact, Procedure, Concept, or


Principle):
Teacher will teach landscape art procedure through dance to 6th graders

LEARNING OUTCOME (Objective):


Students will successfully demonstrate, understand, identify and explain how to plant in order to
enhance and enrich the area.

CURRICULUM CONNECTION (How this lesson fits into unit plan):


Introduction to plan life and the plant life cycle as well as how landscape art beautifies the
community

INSTRUCTION
A)

ENGAGEMENT (Motivational Activity):


Students will be shown a clip of Alice in Wonderland, which involves plants. Then
students will be asked what they know about plants and their growth process.

B) INSTRUCTIONAL SEQUENCE (Teaching Methodology with Student Activities):

Teacher will use a poster board to teach the life cycle of a plant so students can
understand how a plant grows.

Teacher will ask students what does one need in order to plant something. Once
students say its a seed, teacher will put up a seed on the poster board and explain
what it contains.
Teacher will ask students what is needed in order to make a seed grow. After getting
the answer from students, teacher will place the germination part onto the poster
board.
Teacher will ask students what happens when the seed gets sun. Teacher will then
place the stems and roots part onto the poster.
Teacher will ask students what happens after the stem and roots come out. Teacher
will then place the leaves part to the poster.
Teacher will ask students what comes after the leaves. Teacher will place the flowers
part into the poster.
After flowers teacher will explain the pollination part to the poster.

- After the teacher goes over the of life cycle of a plant, the next teacher will then teach the students
about how to plant a seed (gardening) using movement and dance.
- Teacher will ask the students to stand up.
- Teacher will teach the students how to plant using six dance steps.
- Teacher will demonstrate each step once and then have the students do each step with the teacher.
Step one: Put soil in the pot

Teacher will do a dance motion using hands.


Teacher will do the step once on her own and then another time with the
students.

Step two: Put the seeds in the pot

Teacher will do a dance using hands and fingers.


Teacher will do the step once on her own and then another time with the

students.

Step three: Put more soil in the pot

Teacher will repeat the motion from step one


Teacher will do the step once on her own and then another time with the
students.

Step four: Water goes in the pot

Teacher will do a dance motion using arms, legs, and the back.
Teacher will do the step once on her own and then another time with the
students.

Step five: Sunshine hits the pot

Teacher will do a jumping dance motion, spreading arms out


Teacher will do the step once on her own and then another time with the
students.

Step six: The plant will grow

The teacher will do a dance move that starts crouched down on the
ground, then proceeds to a high jump
Teacher will do the step once on her own and then another time with the
students.

-Teacher and the students will do the whole dance together once.
-From here, the students move on to their assignment where they will get to use the steps of planting to
plant an actual plant.
C) APPLICATION ACTIVITY (Practice and/or Reflection):
-Teacher will divide class into 4 groups
-Each group will have seeds, pot, soil, water and trashbag
-Each group will have one teacher with them for guidance
-Teachers will instruct students how to plant seeds
-students will measure of a cup of soil in the measuring cup
- students will then place the soil into the pot
-students will then place the seeds in the pot
- students will then measure of a cup of soil in the measuring cup
- students will then place the of a cup of soil in the pot
-students will then measure of a cup water in the measuring cups
-students will then pour the water into the pot
-Meanwhile two other teachers will walk around helping any group in need
- Alice in Wonderland soundtrack will be playing in the background

ASSESSMENT STRATEGIES (Methods for obtaining evidence of learning):

Select an assessment that is aligned with the learning outcome(s) of your lesson

While students are participating, the teacher will listen to the students and make
mental notes about the students understanding of the subject.

Teacher will ask questions about the lesson to check for understanding.

ACCOMODATIONS FOR INDIVIDUAL LEARNERS (Content, Instruction,


Practice):

-Bilingual teachers will explain in Spanish as needed for ESL students


-Sign language interpreters will be available to explain the lesson and activities as need
-Those with limited movement can move according to their abilities.

Teachers will gives seeds to students; students will plant seeds and track growth of plant.
