TheEKGisanoninvasiveprocedurethatisvirtuallyriskfree.BylookingattheEKGtracingand
seeingthattheevidencefordisordersoftheheart.BylookingattheEKGtracingyoucanfind
outtheabnormal,speeding,irregularrhythms,injurytomuscletissue,anddeathofmuscle
tissue.TheECGcanpatternseveredeflectionsorwaves,duringthecardiaccycle.
Therespiratoryhasinspirationthepressureoftheairaroundus,theforcethatmovesintothe
lungsmercurylevelisabout760mLhighinatube.Thepressureandvolumearerelatedinan
opposite,inversewayknowastheBoyleslaw.Theexpirationnormalrestingexpirationfrom
elasticrecoilofthelungtissuesandabdominalorgans.Therecoiloftheelasticfibersinlung
tissuesreducespressureinpleuralcavity.

Don'tstartwithoutyourpartnerbeingthere,alsoifyougetlightheadedjuststop,wehadto
cleanthespirometerwithalcoholbeforeplacingitclosetoourmoutharea,donthorseplaying
whileworkingonthelab.

EKGLabProcedure
StartoffbyconnectingtheEKGSensortotheLabQuestandchooseNewfromthefilemenu.
Then,attachthethreeelectrodetabstoyourarms,asitshowedonthedrawing.Connectthe
EKGclipstotheelectrodetabsasshowninFigure2.Thenyouwilljustsitonthechairand
relaxyourarmsontopofthetable.Whenyou'repositioned,havesomeonestartdatacollection.

intable1.Onceyoudoallthatcalculatetheheartrateinbeats/minusingtheEKGdata.

ProcedureforMeasuringLungVolume
Ihadtolaythespirometeronlongflatsurfacetableforwhenwestartedtomeasureourvolume
andcapacity.SothefirstmeasurewedidwastheTidalVolume(TV),beforestartingwehadto
makesurethattherewasnoairinsidethebag.Thenweplacedthemouthpiececlosetoour
mouthandTooktwoorthreenormalbreathsandthenexhalednormallytothespirometer.The
secondmeasurewedidwastheExpiratoryReserveVolume(ERV),thenyouwouldstartoffby
makingsurethereanyairinsidethespirometerbeforeIstarted.Youwouldtaketwoorthree
normalbreaths,andtheninhalenormallyandexhalenormallythenyouwouldplacethe
spirometerinyourmouth.Withouttakinganotherbreathexhaleasmuchairasyoucan.ThenI
movedontomeasureVitalCapacity(VC)makesurethatthereisnoairinthespirometer.You
wouldbeginbytakingtwoorthreenormalbreaths,theninhaleasmuchairaspossibleand
exhaleasmuchairasyoucanasfastasyoucan.
WhenIbeganmeasuringtheTV,ERV,andVCafterexerciseyoujustwouldruninplacefor3
minutesbeforemeasuringeachvolumeandproceedtodoingthesamethingasIsaidbefore.
