346 3.4 Category 2 Correlations The three correlations considered in this category are based on the same approach and differ only in the correlation presented for friction factor. The basic equation for calculating @ pressure gradient at given conditions of pressure and temperature is 2 golig 5, —'o‘m seseeeaeees +33 az "5, Te, 4 for any consistent set of units. Poettmann and Carpenter preferred to base the equation on a total mass flow rate. The equation and units given below are identical to their original equation except for the constant in the denominator, which hae been modified to a Darcy-Weisbach or Moody equation rather then a Fanning equation for friction loss. ae tle ny ev 1 ee az 144 |e, 2,9652 x 10" | where 4B « pressure gradient; psi/ft. f, " no-slip density, 1bn/ft? w = total mass flow rate, 1bm/day = LD. of tubing, ét. f£ = two-phase friction factor, dimensionl In each method the friction factor was correlated empirically with the numerator cf the Reynolds number. The friction factor correlations for the methods #f Poettmann and Carpenter,Baxendell and Thomas and Fancher and Brown are shown in Figures,3,3, 3-4 and 3.5. Since the numerator of the Reynolds number is not dimensionless, units must be specified for the abscissa in the graphs. For the graphs presented in Figures 3.3, 3.4 and 3.5, the units for the abscissa are lbu/ft-sec. In the Fancher and Broun correlation the three curves for gas-liquid ratio can be considered to represent gas-liquid ratios for 1500, 2250 and 3000 for interpolation purposes.
