ABSTRACT

The aim of the study is to know about how the continuity between the
Rerum Novarum with the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus by Schmutzer in
Ganjuran. The historical development of the Gereja dan Candi Hati Kudus Tuhan
Yesus Ganjuran cannot be separated from Schmutzers role in developing the
spirit of Rerum Novarum as the basis to manage the Gondang Lipuro sugar mill.
On the other hand, the researcher also explores about the devotion to the Sacred
Heart of Jesus which is believed by Schmutzer, especially in Ganjuran. This study
also aims to provide insight to the people of the Social Doctrine of the Church,
especially Rerum Novarum in the context of the historical development of the
Gereja Hati Kudus Tuhan Yesus Ganjuran. In addition, this study raises and gives
insight about the Social Doctrine of the Church of Rerum Novarum as the basic
spirit of Schmutzer in building Gereja Hati Kudus Tuhan Yesus Ganjuran.
The method used is literary study. Literary study is used to gather
information about the historical development of the Candi Hati Kudus Tuhan
Yesus Ganjuran in history portrait of Ganjuran Church, as well as digging
information about the Social Doctrine of the Church, especially Rerum Novarum.
The interview from person who understands the history of the Gereja dan Candi
Hati Kudus Tuhan Yesus Ganjuran is used to complete and confirm the data from
literature sources. In analyzing the data for answering the problem, the researcher
compares the various sources of literature that is used to describe the point of
discussion.
The result shows that there is continuity between the Action and
Contemplation in the work and the inside of Schmutzer. Action and contemplation
are two things that cannot be separated from one another. Action becomes the
embodiment of devotion and contemplation is a reflection of the action.
Therefore, there is continuous cycle between action and contemplation.

Devotion does not just stop at the extent of praying, but it needs to be
realized in the works. The challenge of this era is that many people do not
understand the basic spirit of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Ganjuran
because of distance and time. It is often that people just stop at the extent of
praying. It is even many people who fall into magical practice. In fact, the
devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Ganjuran invites people not only to ask
for a blessing, but also to share that blessing to others in concrete acts of love.
