Statistics Projecto

Introduction
Original: I Wonder what people think of libraries
But that took too long
Next one: I wonder how appealing is a Turducken
But that was ridiculous
I WONDER how many people are going to prom
Booyah.
I chose this topic to see who will and will not be going to prom, so that I can
determine whether or not I should go as well.

Introduction (cont.)
My population is 30 high schoolers, or at least people that fall into that age group
This is an observational study and a survey, because I will not be doing anything
to change their answers
Hypothesis: I believe people will be undetermined in their decision of going to
Prom because of the gap of time that is still left for prom to happen.

Step 1:
Define the population: After deciding on several different populations I concluded
with an age group similar to my age for quick accessibility to information (14-18)
I then decided I was gonna ask at least 50 people. Because this was just an
observational study/ question I didnt need to perform any treatments or have an
experiment, but had to remain as unbiased as possible. So I made sure not to lead
my group with any information beforehand that may influence their answer

Step 2:
How I collected the data: Walked up to people and asked Are you going to prom
or Will you be going to prom? in person or over the internet
Then I used this scale
If Yes - 1
if No - 2
If Undetermined/ Unsure - 3

Step 3: Collect the Data

I collecta dah data

Step 4: Analyze the Data

Look its a Histogram.
Measures of Center :
Mean: 2.05195
Median: 2
Mode: 3
Measure of Spread:
Standard Deviation: 0.866342
Minimum: 1
(If we wanted to do a box plot)
Q 1: 1
Median 2
Q 3: 3
Maximum: 3
Interquartile Range: 2
Range: 2

The amount of ppl I

ended up asking is 77

Step 5: SO WHAT DOES THIS MEAN

Total:
Yes - 35.06%
No - 22.08%
Undetermined - 40.26%

My data suggests that a majority of people are unsure about

them going to prom, Lurking Variables or Biases that I think
couldve been factored into this were Time, and method of
asking them. I realized a high amount of people said they might
through internet surveys while people stuck to yes or no in a
direct survey. I do expect this type of outcome to be different if
we were closer to the prom date (as in like time date)
So how can we apply this information to our lives?
Ladies and Gentlemen, this means a good 40% or so of our
school, no of people of our age are unsure about going to
prom. Youve got plenty of time to convince them to go (with
you, or you know date (not the time date this time))
This information appeals more to the high school audience

Step 5: WHAT DOES THIS MEAN (continued)

Reflection: What this project has taught me, is that I shouldnt change topics really
quickly, and that people are questioning about going to prom.
