Reflection Questions:
1. Why are products considered organic? What makes them better?
-The qualities that make organic food better are what make them organic. Food that is considered organic are high in antioxidants
and other nutrients than food that is not. Organic farmers do not use persistant pesticides or synthetic fertilizers that could harm wildlife
and contaminate the food itself. The food is not synthetically grown or contains breeding hormones and doesnt contain antibiotics that,
when overused, can lead to the development of dangerous antibiotic resistant infections; they are not GMOs. Lastly, the farmers raise
their animals to be healthy and productive, naturally.
2. How is the organic produce different from the others? (growing process, labelling, price, etc.)
- As I previously stated, organic food are grown without pesticides, fertilizers, are not synthetically grown, or contain breeding
hormones. This, however, makes them more expensive than their competition.
3. Why is the price of organically grown foods higher than traditionally grown foods?
- The price of organically grown food is higher than traditionally grown food because of the differences in the growth processes and
the nutrition facts.
4. Pick ONE product and discuss what you feel is the most significant factor related to the process of production to
consumption? Why?
- I feel that the most significant factor of the Organic Valley milk is the positive animal care that is involved when producing it. Having
happy, healthy cows that are tuned with nature creates better products- nutritious and taste wise. A company with these type of
products leads to more customers and consumption of their food.
