Different Conflicts
with Natural gas
by: Gabrielle Poole

There are many struggles over natural gas

There are many conflicts around the world. All

over the world countries fight over natural
resources. Many countries fight over natural
gas and that is why there are wars. Today we
will explore the deeper reasons of wars and
different arguments.

South Sudan- Sudan

Sudan has given South Sudan their own land
as a part of a peace treaty. When the two
countries split Sudan got the part of land with
the gas pipelines. As a sign of power they

raised natural gas prices unfairly. South

Sudan thought that this was highly unfair and

pushed out a full on argument. This heated

argument has gone on for at least 3 years,
Syria- Unknown
and still no bombing has happened or guns.

This is classified as a price war.
Syria had an attack with masked and unknown
terrorists. The terrorists kept hostages. Syrian
government soon found out the reason. The
terrorists dumped oil into the oceans and set
off bombs too. One of Syrias gas pipelines
was blown up with massive explosions. This
conflict was filed as a serious case, because it
included many deaths.

Artic

In the ARCTIC, there is a heated debate over
who shall get the natural gas that is under all of
the ice. There are 44 billion barrels of natural
gas under the Arctic's thick icy chunks and 8
countries are head to head to see who will
claim it. Since the Arctic is not claimed by
anyone and has no real president, everyone
wants to take the gas and have it to
themselves. The countries that are fighting are:
Russia, Canada, United States, Denmark,
Norway, Sweden, Iceland, and Finland.
Scientists are worried about this sudden
outburst because no one is actually thinking of
the effects from drilling and melting up all this
ice and having it all over the place. If these
countries even do start drilling then the ice will
melt and flood seas causing smaller. This is a
current event happening today.

Argentina- Spain

Argentinas president announced that her
government would seize a majority of of YPF.
YPF is the nation's largest gas/oil companies.
Spain thought that this gesture was unfair so
they wanted to take some action. Every year
Spain gives Argentina 1 billion dollars worth of
natural gas. This war was called a trade war.
A trade war is when there is not guns and
violent weapons but arguments and actions
with trading.

Russia- Ukraine

Ukraine needs and consumes lots of natural

because it will run out eventually and natural

gas is very valuable to people. Here are a few
major conflicts over natural gas: Iran-Iraq war
of 1980-1988, Gulf War of 1990-1991,
Sudanese Civil War of 1983-2
ISIS uses lots of oil and natural gas for their
weaponry in wars and other ways. However
when the ISIS starts over using the resources
(600,000) barrels of oil and gas. America and
other countries grew very suspicious then a
heated court argument about taking too much
for weaponry and further other uses
corresponded.

Many countries have different ways to express
conflicts too. Some countries have wars with
fighting, talking, court of law, etc.
All these many ways of expressing can end
badly or maybe not. It all depends on how
badly the problem is. No matter how many
natural recourses there are in the world, there
will always be problems and fights. What we
have to do is to conserve and remember that
yes there is natural gas but if you save it then
we wont have to fight anymore.

gas. They need lots of natural gas because it

is very cold where a lot of people live. They
use the natural gas to heat their homes.
Ukraine depends on Russia for their natural
gas because that is where Ukraine buys it
from.

Russia announced on June 16 to turn off
Ukraine's deposits of natural gas because
apparently Ukraine was not paying the dues.
This conflict however was solved easily. All
Ukraine had to do was pay back half of the
loans they needed to pay . This conflict was
not so much of a conflict. It was more of a
minor money problem for a short period of
time. This was not too much of a war.It was
more of a cause and effect chain. Ukraine
needed their share of natural gas so they
payed back their dues and after this Russia
gave them back there every year share.

Remember to keep the world happy and
healthy by saving our world's natural
resources.
