Kingdom Enforcers Worship Centers Women of Royalty is on a mission to empower
women in transition through acts of love and the word of God.
In its first year, the group currently has 25 members and meets one Saturday a month.
Felicia Taylor, group president and minister, was appointed to the group by the churchs pastor,
Bishop Jacqueline D. McLemore, after expressing her heart for women. For the past six years,
Taylor has worked extensively with prison ministry, especially in helping female inmates who
are transitioning from prison life to the real world.
I have a passion for women who are in transition because we all are transitioning in some way
be it prison, divorce, loss of spouse or job, Taylor said.
Women of Royalty helps women to reach their full
potential regardless of barriers, and by giving them the
word of God.
For Taylor, its about being our sisters keeper.
There should not be a woman in the church who is not
touched, Taylor said addressing members of the group
during a recent meeting. Make sure that when a woman is
missing in action, we need to make sure she is okay.
So far, the women have partnered with the Julia Tutwiler
Prison for Women, Aid to Inmate Mothers (AID) program,
to provide purses filled with personal hygiene products and
undergarments for women leaving prison, and the Clothes
Closet an in-house and community outreach project.
Taylor believes that what Women of Royalty does is imperative for the church and community.
It is very important because it keeps me grounded and reminds me of how God brought me
through, Taylor said concerning her own testimony. He strategically placed women in my life
that helped me [as I transitioned]. Were connected to people according to destiny even those
yet to encounter. Programs like this need to be in place so destiny happens, and we reach our full
potential.
Upcoming events for the group include a pancake breakfast fundraiser and a Womens Retreat in
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina among others.

Taylor has encouraged the group to step up to the plate in 2016.

We want to be able to do for a sister who is sick or going through, Taylor said. This is a new
year. We want to make sure we take care of our sisters who are sick or are going through
Polly Ward, group vice president and church missionary, has also been instrumental in the
groups operations.

Every great dream begins with a dreamer.

Always remember, you have within you the
strength, the patience, and the passion to
reach for the stars to change the world.

Local Church Holds First Community Health Fair

By Desiree Taylor

ingdom Enforcers Ministries held its first health fair for members of the community

during the month of January. Various professionals and businesses were represented, offering
healthcare advice on such diseases as cancer, diabetes, and Alzheimers, heart attack/disease, and
general wellness information.
Groups included the Medical AIDS Outreach of Alabama, Life South Community Blood
Centers (who provided onsite blood drive) , Life Cord Cord Blood Bank, The Wellness
Coalition, the Montgomery Cancer Center, New Day Senior Care/Community Hospital of
Tallassee, Ala., Dr. Doyin Ogunbi, M.D., Internal Medicine; Isaiah Sankey, Nurse Practitioner;
and Costco Wholesale Stores (Montgomery). In addition, representatives gave special
presentations and were on hand to answer questions.
LaShena Hampton, who spearheaded the event, said the fair was about community
awareness.
A lot of our people are not aware of the resources that are available, Hampton said.
We lack knowledge. The Bible says that my people perish for the lack of knowledge. Other
races are aware of whats out there. I wanted to bring our people [African-American
professionals] in to help us to show us our options [as African-Americans], because we do
have options.
Dr. Doyin Ogunbi, Internist in Montgomery, says the forum is of utmost importance.
Educating the public and making sure people understand their health is [the] most
important part
of healthcare,
he said.
Natalie Forbes,
Nurse of 20

practicing
years, agrees.

not taking care of ourselves, not going to the doctor not having mammograms, etc.
Forbes said that regular checkups with a primary care physician should be a top priority, and not
taken lightly.
Its important to go to the doctor regularly, Forbes said.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, heart disease is the leading cause
of death for men and women with 1-in-4 deaths occurring in the U.S. annually. Additionally,
nearly 24 percent of deaths are that of African-Americans. Risk factors for the disease include
diabetes, being overweight, lack of exercise, and excessive alcohol use to name a few.
Dr. Ogunbi said taking control of ones health through proper monitoring and medication, are
ways to prevent disease. Some disease, Ogunbi said, can be reversible.
Diabetes in its pre-stages, can be reversible early on if your pancreas hasnt been halfway
destroyed, Ogunbi said. It can be
reversed if you begin to exercise
and eat right. High Blood Pressure,
however, is not reversible you
have to keep taking medicine for
it.
Deborah Lewis, a heart attack
survivor and Minister with the
church, gave her personal
testimony during the event. Lewis,
who went into cardiac arrest in
2014, spoke candidly of her family
history with heart disease as well
as her personal heart issues as a
child.
After the episode, doctors later diagnosed Lewis with having an irregular heartbeat.
Before, I had stroke-like symptoms, Lewis said. I had three stents put in after my heart attack
on September 6, 2014. On December 7th (2015), I learned that one of the stents were blocked. I
had to undergo open heart surgery on December 15th.
Lewis, whose grandmother died of a heart attack at the age of 47, says she is so grateful to be
alive.
I wasnt taking care of me relaxing. I thank God for still being here I have work to do,
Lewis said. I look at my daughter and my sons and Im getting them educated [about heart
attack]. Im looking forward to living life abundantly and in the overflow.

In addition to living a healthy lifestyle and having regular medical checkups, healthcare
professionals also suggest healthy eating to help prevent and/or control existing disease.
Nortasha Murrell, Marketing Representative for Costco, said the warehouse offers a variety of
healthy food choices that many customers are not aware of.
Costco has many organic items available, Murrell said, as she showcased the array of fruits,
vegetables and beverage items. With us, you will get the most out of your membership.
Also during the health fair, Tiffanie Struggs of Community Hospital of Tallassee, Ala., discussed
senior care and how caretakers can identify the signs of stress, dementia and schizophrenia
among the elderly. In addition, a representative from Life Cord, a nonprofit blood bank,
mentioned the importance of expectant mothers donating their umbilical cord blood to save lives
especially to help cure leukemia and sickle cell anemia (disease). According to the
organizations research, only 73 percent of pregnant African-American women will donate their
cord blood after delivery, compared to 91 percent of Caucasian mothers.
Stephanie Shorter, Cord Blood Coordinator, said the blood is collected by Baptist Medical
Centers East and South and Jackson Hospital. The blood, which will be melted down to the size
of a credit card, will go all over the world to matches who are in need.
We just sent blood to Australia in September, Shorter said. Its very important to give blood.
We need more black mothers to give blood.
The health fair was held Saturday, January 23rd from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. inside the churchs
fellowship hall. The Counsel on Substance, Adams Drugs, and Community Hospice, provided
the reading material and trinkets.
Ministers Felicia Taylor and Garcia Long also helped with
coordinating the event.
