A letter from the Pope

TASK:
Using the information below, students must construct a letter or speech from the
perspective of Pope Urban II, attempting to influence and convince English patriots to take
up arms and reclaim the Holy Lands in the name of the Lord.

STEPS:
1. Research Pope Urban IIs original speech on the issue of the Crusades.
2. Find evidence to support your writing.
3. Present your findings in a letter or speech format.

convince English/Muslim patriots to take up arms and reclaim the Holy Lands in the name of
their Lord.

2. Find evidence to support your writing.
3. Present your findings in a letter or speech format.
