Dear Advisory Board:
The topic I would like to learn is boxing. The only background experience I
have on the subject is when I did a project on former boxer, Sugar Ray
Leonard, in the sixth grade. Since then, I have always had an interest in the
sport. I would like to learn boxing for self-defense. I am also considering
boxing at an organized amateur level.
In my research paper I will discuss the history of boxing, the rules to scoring,
safety precautions, and the dangers of the sport. I will find information on
these topics through the internet, an interview with my mentor, books, and
periodicals.
I bought a membership at a fighting gym called American Top Team on
December twentieth for 150 dollars. The mentor I will be shadowing is Chris
Sawtelle, the boxing instructor at this gym. He will teach me basics of the
sport. With the membership, I get full access to every boxing clinic that
happens Monday through Friday at six which are run by my mentor. In these
clinics, I spar with my mentor, learn offensive and defensive moves, and
participate in weight lifting sessions. I will complete fifteen hours or more of
practical experience. Since this project will be expensive, and potentially
dangerous I have attached my liability and cost waivers.
I understand the consequences awaiting me if I plagiarize my project. MLA
format will be used to cite my sources.
