SHERWOOD MERRYWALKERS

Meeting Minutes
May 10, 2010
Attendees: Mary Ann Hawke, Kathy Enders, Starr McKee, Sandi Reid, Rachael Spanks,
Jane Leider, Lou Ann Brennock, Bill Brennock, Vicky McCool, Mary Fribley, Sandra
McDonald, Lynette Waller, Mary Rose Modzelewski, Barbara Bowes, Linda Lantz,
Barbara Chavez

Pre-walk canceled because of rain.

There was no treasurer’s report.

In future, the club will purchase Distance and Event books for our membership. The
price of Specialty books will be $8 and can be stamped with a star at walks at the same
time as your event and distance books. They are used to record walks where you pass
state capitols, library’s, fire stations, railroads and more. For more information check our

The Rose Parade is being held on Saturday, June 12, 2010. If you are doing the Grand
Floral Walk, you must register online and pay before May 24th. If you are walking for
credit, you need to fill out a start card and pay $2 for the stamp.

Membership Chair Lynette reports our membership at 60 members.

Walk events calendar:


July 17, 2010, 4 p.m. Saturday. Robin Hood Festival, Startpoint Rose’s Deli.
We will see about walking in the Robin Hood Parade that morning.
October 24, 2010, Sunday at 10 a.m.Fall Foliage & Soup Walk, YMCA,
Serving soup to walkers, who are asked will be asked to donate canned soup, etc to local
foodbank.
December 4, 2010, Saturday 4 p.m. Christmas walk, YMCA in conjunction
with the tree lighting ceremony.

May 7, 2011, Triple Crown Derby Day Walk. Merrywalkers will be part of 3
clubs doing 3 walks, all part of the “Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing” theme series.

Speaker Christopher Chun, a physical therapist from Providence Sherwood, spoke to


us of the importance of balance using strength, eyes, and ears to improve our balance
skills, keeping safety as a goal. He then took us through a series of balance exercises
used to strengthen our balance and avoid injuries. We were all given handouts with
various exercises and moves to continue working to improve balance skills at home.

Meeting adjourned at 8:40pm.
