You have bought a Cable Test Van the trend-setting technical and operational concept of which is absolutely world-class as is its price in relation to its performance. The present system manual has been designed as an operating guide and for reference. It is meant to answer your questions and solve your problems in as fast and easy a way as possible. Please start with referring to this manual should any trouble occur. In doing so, make use of the table of contents and read the relevant paragraph with great attention. Hagenuk KMT guarantees that at the time of delivery Hagenuk KMT products are free from faults in material and workmanship which would considerably reduce their value or servicability. This warranty does not cover any fault in the software supplied. During the period of warranty, Hagenuk KMT will repair faulty parts or replace them with new parts or parts as new (with the same usability and life as new parts) according to their own choice. Further warranty claims, in particular those from consequential damage, will not be accepted. Each component and product replaced in accordance with this warranty becomes the property of Hagenuk KMT. All warranty claims versus Hagenuk KMT expire after a period of 12 months from the date of delivery. Each component supplied by Hagenuk KMT in the context of warranty will also be covered by this warranty for the remaining period of time but for 90 days at least. Each measure to remedy a warranty claim must exclusively be carried out by Hagenuk KMT or an authorized service station As a precondition for accepting a warranty claim, the customer has to complain about the effect, in case of an immediately detectable fault within 10 days from the date of delivery. This warranty does not cover any fault or damage caused by exposing a product to conditions not in accordance with this specification, by storing, transporting, or using it improperly, or having it serviced or installed by a workshop not authorized by Hagenuk KMT. No claim will be accepted in case of wear and tear, will of God, or connection to foreign components. For a damage resulting from a violation of their duty to repair or re- supply items, Hagenuk KMT can be made liable only in case of severe negligence or intention. At the time of supply, this system and its supplementary equipment are in line with the state of the art in safety control. Due to the operating procedures there may be parts and places of the system and its peripherals, however, which cannot be protected properly without unreasonably interfering with their function and control. This is why ‘comprehensive personal experience in safety matters is absolutely vital for the protection of both staff and equipment. Whenever the system is operated in a vehicle or in some other way as a mobile station, these safety precautions apply in their general sense. This is why we advise you to abide by the following safety precautions! GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS This manual shall be available to the supervising, operating, and maintenance staff for reference. Only trained or instructed staff are permitted to deal with this system and its peripherals. Any other persons shall be kept away from it This system is allowed to be run by authorized persons with sufficient expertise only. Operate the system and its pertaining peripherals only when they are in good working order. Improper use may constitute a high risk of damage to the life and health of the operator as well as the system and the equipment connected to it Use the system exclusively for the purpose it has been designed for by its manufacturer. Always use the appropriate tools for each operation on and for running the system and keep your tools in good condition! Permanently supervise that during operation and maintenance all safety precautions are obeyed! Never use foreign components on the system and its peripherals, otherwise the safety of the system and its environment is not ensured Refrain from any operation which might jeopardize the safety of the system. The user is obliged to immediately report any arising change in the system to the supervisor in charge. 12 (MAN _VarioKMT_eng_07.600 1A, sebaxmr The operator is obliged to immediately shut down the system whenever a fault occurs which may be safety risk to the staff. The system is permitted to be switched on again only after the fault has been remedied. ELECTROTECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS The system and all its peripherals shall be connected according to instructions. All relevant standards such as EN, DIN, and VDE or national regulations, respectively, shall be met Any repair or maintenance operation may be carried out only after all circuit have been shut down (are in a dead state) and only by an electrical expert according to UWV. A person is regarded an electrical expert to UW (Prevention of Accidents Regulation) if due to his or her practical training, knowledge, and experience he or she is able to clearly understand the operation to be carried out and detect any possible risk Any intervention in the system is allowed to be carried out by a workshop authorized by Hagenuk KMT only. FIREFIGHTING IN AREAS OF ELECTRIC SYSTEMS * Recommended substance for fire extinguisher: carbon dioxide (CO2) * Carbon dioxide is not conductive to electricityally and leaves no residue. _ Its use on systems under voltage is not critical. * Observe risk notes as stated on the extinguishers. + DIN VDE 0132 applies Personal Protective Measures Please absolutely abide by the following safety precautions to avoid any risk of damage to persons and / or equipment caused by operating the system individually or in combination with other systems or devices: - Check whether there are any unprotected systems / system components under voltage ( 0 25 V AC / 0 60 VDC) in the immediate vicinity of the Vario KMT which you or your system may get into contact with. This applies in particular to components under high voltage or components the voltage of which is not known, Protect these components by putting up insulating covers. If, for technical reasons, this cannot be done disconnect these components or have them disconnected for as long as you stay on the test site after beforehand having consulted the relevant supervisor and asked for his / her permission. Make sure this measure Is carried out properly. (MAN WandkT_eng_ OF do 18 44.2. 14.24. sebaxmr Take a test measurement, e.g., by means of an appropriate voltage meter. Beforehand, check the proper operation of the this meter, e.g., by taking a test measurement of a known voltage. - Position your Vario KMT in a place suitable with regard to its dimensions and its load-carrying capacity. Check whether the system stands in a stable position. = Make sure that no other system / system component is restricted in its operation by the presence of your Vario KMT. If due to the installation and operation of the generator some change has to be made in another system / system component, always make sure that the former condition is restored after all operations have been concluded. Observe the special requirements of these systems / system components without fail, and start any operation on them only after having eforehand consulted the relevant supervisor and asked for his/her permission. This applies in particular to any intervention in an existing safety device. General Rules for Dealing With High Voltage Dealing with high-voltage equipment requires particularly great care This applies in particular to non-stationary (mobile) application when safety is not primarily provided for by the appropriate location and its equipment of permanently installed safety devices. Always abide by DIN-VDE Regulation 0104 “Installation and Operation of Electrical Test Equipment’ and DIN VDE 0105/ DIN EN 50110 ,Operation of Electrical Installations" These documents include the following safety instructions: - High-voltage installations shall only be operated in rooms with protection according to regulations or behind appropriate barriers. Never bypass nor render inactive any safety device - At least two persons shall be present whenever a high-voltage installation is operated. The second person shall be able to recognize any risk and, in case of emergency, immediately actuate the emergeny- shutdown ‘Supplementary Guidelines The following guidelines add to the above regulations. - Always connect all metal parts in the vicinity of a high-voltage installation to earth in order to avoid dangerous charging. Particularly great attention should be paid to non-stationary (mobile) operation MAN _VaioKMT_ong_07.602 44.2.2. 1.4.3. sebaxmt = Open a circuit only when you are absolutely sure it does not carry any current or voltage (danger of ares) = High-Voltage testing and burning devices are short-circuit-proof. This involves the danger of the voltage running up as soon as the short- circuit is removed. Connect an appropriate voltage limiting device in parallel to the meter (e.g., a 90 V gas discharge voltage arrestor) when making a short-circuit test. - Even after circuits have been properly disconnected and discharged, you are permitted to contact components which had been under voltage and connect or disconnect any measuring or test equipment only after the installation has visibly been earthed and short-circuited by an appropriate device, Danger Due To Returning Voltage From Space Charge = Remove earthing and short circuit only when the object under test is going to be put into operation again = Any cable out of operation is a capacitor! Make absolutely sure cables are properly earthed and short-circuited Safety Precautions Specific to a Test Van Connect the test van or the Vario KMT properly to the test object before putting it into operation (see chapter 3.2.) Make sure the earthing resistance is (12 0 (protective and system earth) when you operate a test van or a Vario KMT. Seal the test van respectively the Vario KMT off by a barrier if you cannot meet this requirement. Furthermore make sure that there is no connection between system earth and protective earth directly at the Vario KMT. This would render the internal safety equipment of the system ineffective! Make this connection on the test site by connecting system earth (shield of the HV cable) and protective earth (earth conductor) with station earth. Connect system earth and protective earth separately to their respective terminals within the test van or at the Vario KMT, see also chapter 3.1 Never place the test van or the Vario KMT on the route of the cable under test (Danger of voltage cone at the location of the fault) ‘As a matter of principle, DIN-VDE Regulations 0104 and DIN 0105 / DIN EN 50110 as well as national regulations, in particular those referring to cable fault location shall be obeyed. MAN _VariekMT_eng_01 doc 75 14.4. sebaxmir Dangers of Surge Locating In conventional lead-sheathed cable with steel reinforcement, lead sheath and reinforcement are used for earthing. Due to earthing through a large surface and, as a consequence, the apparent coming closer of the ,earth conductor’ to the place of fault, no dangerous voltage cone can build up. Plastic cables, on the other hand, have an insulated shield. The shield consists of a semiconductor layer and a relatively wide-meshed copper web. Earthing proper is through the earthing systems in the stations. A cable fault often involves the destruction of the shield, so the current SUFQE | suge Tetum to the station earth via the ground. This will result in voltage cones in the vicinity of both the station earth and the place of fault (see Fig. 1-1) When the test van is placed outside the voltage cone of the station earth, a dangerous contact voltage can be generated when the earthing resistance of the station earth Re, is greater than 2 0 considering the fact that the test van earth is connected with the station earth. Make absolutely sure that the test van or the Vario KMT are connected with earth through an earthing resistance of <2 0. 3. Seal the test van off during surge locating whenever the test operator does not have precise information on the earthing resistance of the station earth. No one is allowed to enter or leave the test van during tests. Sealing off shall be supervised by an electrotechnical expert, RESIDUAL VOLTAGE INDICATION In the event of failure of the Vario Control Unit display while in operation, due to supply power failure for example, any residual voltage remaining at the HV cables will be displayed on an analog meter. This permanently connected meter is identified as ,Residual Voltage” and is located on the front panel of the Vario KMT above the desk. Use appropriate discharge and earthing equipment and safe working procedures before attempting disconnection of the HV cables from the cable under test. MAN _arioKT_eng_01-doe 7 445. ATTENTION: The Attention symbol marks working or operational procedures which shall be obeyed meticulously to avoid A any risk to or destruction of the instrument and its peripherals NOTE: The Note symbol applies to specific technical @ requirements which the user shall particularly take into account when operating the system, Range of Application and Mode of Operation The Vario KMT is a self-contained three-phase test system to locate faults on power cables in low-voltage and medium-high-voltage systems and for testing cables in accordance with VDE. The Vario KMT includes system components of latest design representing the present state of the art. This allows high technical performance to be encased in a small instrument with a relatively light weight The Vario KMT has the following special features: * A new patent-protected prelocating technique has been introduced which is called ARM Plus for the voltage range 0 to 32kV and Decay Plus for the range up to the highest test voltage of 8OKV thus enhancing the performance of arc-surge prelocating «There is a facility to automatically measure the insulation or inter- conductor resistance between each pair of the three conductors and between each conductor and system earth the results of which are read out on the screen of the Control Unit. * The mode of connection can be adapted to the customer's power supply system. The following versions are available: HV three-phase up to 80KV or HV single-phase up to 80KV and MV three phase up to MAN arog _eng_01.600 sebaxmr 8kV through a three-wire connecting cable mainly to be used in low- voltage systems. * The Vario KMT is run entirely from the computer controlled Control Unit. All functions of the system, measured results, operator instructions, and error messages are read out on the screen of the Control Unit. The Control Unit contains all reflectometer modes, too. Thus the Control Unit also controls the prelocation methods Pulse echo test (TDR), ARM Plus, Decay Plus and Current surge location (Surge) and all test results are read out on the display. The system is structured in modules thus allowing optimum adaptation of the system to different ranges of application regarding the relevant methods of measurement and testing, adjustment of test and surge voltages, adjustment of surge energy and the desired easiness of operation. Already the low-price standard version comprises the modes Testing up to 80 kV, Test of Sheath faults up to 20 kV, Surge testing on the 4/8/16/32 KV levels with a surge energy 1280 J, Pulse echo testing, Prelocating and Pin-pointing. Furthermore, a wide variety of optional components is available to extend the performance of the Vario KMT. All system components are harmonized with each other thus allowing ‘easy configuration of a user-defined system. The Vario KMT is an unprotected high-voltage system with IP 00. There is no protection against electric shock of the operating staff until the system is installed in a vehicle. The necessary safety circuits must be installed If the Vario KMT is operated outside a vehicle the user must take the necessary safety measures for operation of a high-voltage system himself. Description of the Vario KMT 2.3.4. Total System The Vario KMT is shown in Figs. 2-1 and 2-2. The HV Unit also contains the control modules for the each high-voltage unit, the safety equipment of the system and the power supply modules including the fuses. In the standard configuration of the Vario KMT, the HV Unit consists of a cube-shaped rack either with metal-sheet covers or left open when used in a test van. Optional extras are designed as lateral extensions of the cube-shaped rack. The connector field of the high-voltage output is assigned to the connecting equipment depending on the selected switch equipment. The HV Unit is fixed to a support which allows it to be easily moved by means of a fork lift. Switching Equipment The Switching Equipment is for linking the HV Unit to the Connecting Equipment of the Vario KMT. There are two sub-sets: It includes the SF6 gas insulated combined device selector and conductor selector switch and @ control pcb belonging to it Connecting Equipment The cable drums are shown in Fig.3-2 The cable drums with their connection cables for mains connection (3), protective earth connection (7), connection to the earth spike (4), and high- voltage connection to the cable under test (9) are located on a separate support. The length of each connecting cable is 50 m for the standard configuration. The mains (3) and the earthing cable drums (7) are located on the LV cable drum rack (6). The LV cable drum rack also includes the terminal of the earthing cable (8) for connecting the Vario KMT to the protective earth and FU cable (5) for the connection of the earth spike. Prevent any unintentional contact with live components of the test object by protective means (handrails, chains, bars) which guarantee that no one can enter the zone of danger. Disconnect the cable under test to guarantee that no dangerous voltage can reach unprotected places or unprotected technical equipment Whenever the Vario KMT is operated, a second person shall be present within viewing and hearing distance who can recognize possible risks and shut down the system. Never leave the Vario KMT unattended while in operation! Connect all metal parts in the vicinity of the Vario KMT with earth in order to avoid dangerous charging As a matter of principle, all cables out of operation and not needed for a test shall be shorted and connected with earth. Make your mains connection only after having finished the first step. For the order of making connections, refer to Fig. 3- How to Connect Protective Earth, System Earth, and Earthing Spike Never operate a test van or an individual Vario KMT unless the earthing cable has been connected. The earthing cable connects the Vario KMT with protective earth and thus guarantees safety against accidental contact for the entire system Current peaks during surge location or due to discharges when testing 2 cable may cause potential differences via earth and potential equalizing conductors. This may cause damage to the mains input, Protective earth (earthing cable) and system earth (shield of the HV cable) of the Vario KMT shall be so connected that no inadmissible voltage difference may arise between protective earth (PE) and neutral conductor (N). 1.) How to connect protective earth in a TN(earthed neutral) power supply system Connect the protective earth conductor with the point of earth connection of the neutral conductor or, if you cannot do so, with a protective earth terminal by as short a line to this point as possible 2.) How to connect protective earth in a TT(non-earthed neutral) power supply system In this case, operating conditions may vary widely and cannot be generalized. It is up to the user to act on his own authority to take the appropriate measures in order to prevent inadmissible operating conditions. Connect system earth with the shield of the cable A under test! As a matter of priciple, connect the system earth of the Vario KMT with the earthed shield of the cable under test or, if you cannot do so, with the connecting lead to the earthing electrode. Those conductors of the cable which are not needed for the test should be connected directly with system earth. For cables without shield this is a must. h Always equalize potentials! Safety Device (Optional Extra) Connect the safety device (optional extra) before making any contact to the object under test and before supplying power to the Vario KMT, see also Fig 3-1[3]. The safety device has a green signal light and a red one to indicate the state of the high voltage of the Vario KMT. It allows the emergency-off switch to be triggered directly from the test site. Furthermore, you may use the detachable-key switch of the safety device if you wish to secure the Vario KMT against being switched on. In the test van, pull the plug of the connecting cable out of the socket in the cable drum. Unreel the connecting cable and take the safety box to the test site. After that, re-connect the plug of the connecting cable with the cable drum in the test van. When you intend not to use the safety device, make sure that the connecting cable is plugged into the socket on the cable drum in the test van. Otherwise the Vario KMT is not operational. 338 MAN VarioKMT_eng_01. doe 3.2.2.5. sebaxmr Teleflex Cable (Optional Extra) This is how to proceed to connect the Teleflex cable: - Unreel the required length of the cable to reach the object of test, - Plug the connecting lead from the Teleflex connecting point into the socket on the drum body (the connecting lead is fixed adjacent to the Teleflex cable drum), - Make connection to the object of test. Operation with and without using high voltage For reason of personal safety and to protect the equipment, these modes can be selected only after two staggered safety circuits have been activated. Operation without using high voltage is possible when all conditions of safety circuit | are met. They are as follows a) Emergency Off has not been actuated b) The earthing spike has been properly connected and the transition resistance between earthing spike and station earth is within its admissible range Error triggering at > (15 kO +2 kQ) Restart at <(11 kQ + 2k) c) Voltage-time area less than 1 Vs (No dangerous voltage between test van and surrounding earth) After safety circuit I has been activated, a Teleflex test can be performed via the Teleflex cable drum. Any other mode and any mode involving high voltage require safety circuit I to be activated. The conditions of safety circuit Il are as follows: a) Emergency Off has not been activated b) Door contacts closed ©) Removable-key switch(HV interlock) in position ON d) Resistance between protective and system earth is in its admissible range. The relevant help text is called up by pressing the mode to be explained, Press the help key one more time when you want to leave the help mode. Error Messages Error messages can be put out in the window for notes and remarks of the display. If that happens, remove the reason of the error first and receipt the error message by pressing F1 key afterwards. The Vario KMT has to be switched on again according to point 3.3.1. Severe errors cannot be acknowledged. In this case the System offers mode ‘System Restart’ only. In its default mode, system restart does not cancel the set-up. When this severe error occurs again and again, however, we advise to select option “Erase Set-up* when restarting the system, Error messages related to a malfunction of the Vario KMT are tagged with a 6-digit error number. The error number simplifies any remote diagnosis when discussing the error with hagenuk KMT. Defect of the discharging and earthing equipment Whenever some defect of the discharging and/or earthing equipment of the Vario KMT has occurred, the accompanying symbol is displayed on the Control Unit. Make sure nobody touches the output of the Vario KMT, the high-voltage connecting cable, and the connected test object, there is extreme danger! Whenever possible, press key “System Restart” to restart the system. With each restart the system is discharged and earthed. The safety of the system has been restored only when key "Mains On" lights up! When you do not succeed in restarting the system or the accompanying symbol reappears, switch the Vario KMT off. Please make sure that the Vario KMT and the test object connected to it are discharged and connected to earth with utmost caution using an approved discharging and earthing devic Do not operate the Vario KMT any longer but make absolutely sure it is inspected and repaired! MAN _VanioKOT_eng_ 04 doe sebakmr 3.3.2. Resetting the Instrument to Standard Parameters There are a few ways to reset the instrument to standard parameters: 1. Reset all parameters to the standard values defined internally In this case call mode "System Restart” in the System menu. Select option "Default values" before resetting can take place irrevocably. After rebooting all parameters are reset to the standard values defined internally. Please note that this includes the following features: - the language of the system will be English - the printer interface is disabled - the PC interface is disabled 2. Applicable printers: The following printer models are supported: - IBM Proprinter (8-pin printer) - Epson 24-pin printer - Printer specification language PCLS. This language was developed by the manufacturer Hewlett Packard, Almost any common printer can emulate at least one of these three printer languages. How to connect a printer: The printer shall be connected to the parallel interface of the Control Unit. The interface is located at the back of the Control Unit and is configured as a 25-pin D-SUB connector The Vario KMT is a high-voltage equipment. This is why you are not allowed to use common printer cables as used in office applications. Make sure a printer cable with multiple shield such as TO 41243 by manufacturer Inmac is used only. How to configure the printer: To this end, call menu ‘Printer selection’ from the setup-menu. Select ‘Parallel port’ in this menu if you want to enable the printing mode of the selected printer. The configuration of the printer is part of the system set-up. In order to preserve your configuration, call mode ‘Store set-up’ in the system menu How to start printing: During a test, the print key is available in the main menu. In any prelocating mode, the key is available in the archive. ‘As long as printing is under way, the printer status menu can be called. The menu indicates the percentage of data already transfered to the printer. This menu can also be used to abort printing. The scaling of the hardcopy is identical with that of the screen display, so you can optimize the scaling as desired by appropriately setting ‘range’, 'l range’, and 'test duration’ after the test has been concluded. Apart from the trace, the most relevant measuring parameters as well as the measured values of voltage and current at switching-off are also read out. ‘Structure of a printed page for a prelocating test: In the prelocating modes, too, the printed diagram is identical with the screen display at the time when printing was triggered. Below the diagram, up to three columns are printed which contain the most relevant measuring parameters with the left column being allocated to trace 1, the middle column to trace 2 and the right column to trace 3. You can see from a message in the diagram below left whether the differntial mode has been enabled. For instance, message K1-K2 indicates that the trace printed out is the difference of trace 1 minus trace 2 with their characteristes read out in the left and middle columns. How to print system information: In mode ‘System Info’ of the system menu, printing can be triggered, too.
