LEARNED AND HOW IT RELATES TO THE COMPETENCY. EXPLAIN WHY IT WAS MEANINGFUL.
K-8-4 Demonstrate knowledge and ability to recognize and assess
post-partum complications.
One significant learning experience in this course related to CLPNA
competency is that it demonstrates knowledge and ability to recognize and asses post partum complication. For example, as a nurse it is important to know the sign of post- partum complications such as: abnormal vital signs, boggy fundus, deep vein thrombosis, difficulty voiding, edema, hemorrhage, large clots or tissue, and seizure. This enables her/ him to provide better and proper nursing care and intervention to enhance the mother and childs health. I learned that being able to demonstrate, ability to identify, and asses post partum complications. It is significant to provide appropriate intervention to prevent physiological and psychological complication to the mother and the newborn. Properly assessing the fundus for its size and consistency, fundus should be firm to palpating. And the lochia for its consistency, pattern, color and odor. If there are abnormal findings during assessments such as the lochia proceeds rubra, serosa, and alba this should never go backwards. Teaching the client to good perineal care, change perineal pads frequently, encourage ambulation, avoid excessive movements and caring heavier weighs can increase the risk of complication during post- partum. .
USES THE PROFICIENCY
CATEGORIES TO RATE THEIR PROFICIENCY IN THE CHOSEN CLPNA COMPETENCY. EXPLAIN WHAT WAS DONE TO ACHIEVE THE COMPETENCY.
I rated myself as fair in the proficiency category because I do not have
the experience related to the competency level. But I understood that it is important to have the knowledge and the skills to distinguish complications that may affect childbirth to prevent child and mother mortality. To obtain excellent as my proficiency model in my future experience, I will use my resources such as class noted, and Maternal and New-Born Nursing text book to achieve excellent and better assessment skills. In addition, I will be competent enough to integrate the theory knowledge that acquired in the class with clinical placement.

DESCRIBE HOW YOU WILL
APPLY THIS LEARNING IN YOUR CURRENT AND FUTURE NURSING PRACTICE
I will apply this learning in my future career as a practical nurse and
start practicing in the field. I will assess, care and teach my client by applying what I learned through this course. As a nurse I will be responsible to provide care to my patients and I will also apply the knowledge to educate the pregnant mother to avoid risks of complications during post - partum. By recognizing early, the signs of complication can help a nurse to give appropriate intervention to prevent the chance of further complications.
