I believe that one significant learning experience that I had with stages
of growth and development of a pediatric client is our theory class where
Ericksons theory of psychosocial development, Piagets theory of
cognitive development as well as Kolbergs theory of moral
development were discussed. Moodle is incorporated in our pediatric
theory class where assigned book readings, PowerPoints and video links
were provided to enhance our knowledge of the said theories.

doubt relates to my sons behavior when he was at the age of 3. This is
the time when he insisted on brushing his own teeth, putting on his own
clothes and helping with chores in the house. The experiences with my
children, in this case my son, and learning the concepts regarding growth
and development helped me predict certain behaviors in my children.
This is meaningful to me because I have a better understanding on what
to expect when my children reach a certain age and what behaviors can
be anticipated.

Furthermore, learning the aforementioned theories is meaningful to me

because I have the knowledge on what nursing interventions to apply

when giving care to children. I can also apply my knowledge to

construct a nursing care plan that will have the focus or priority care in
respect to my pediatric clients health care needs.

I used good to rate my proficiency in L-1 competency because I

believe that I have learned the theory and I was able to relate these
learning from my past and current experiences as a mother of two. Being
a mother and care giver to my children ages 7 and 4 years of age, I was
able to relate my childrens pattern of behaviors with the growth and
development theories learned in class. These learning helped me
substantiate the following concepts because of my past and current
interaction with my children.
Furthermore, I used this rating because I am still missing clinical
experience in the health care field in order to be fully competent on
pediatric nursing.
I believe that I can apply this learnt skill for future practices after I
received my license as a full pledge Practical Nurse. Pediatric nursing is
one of the many scopes of practice that I need to perform. Full
knowledge and understanding of the stages of growth and development
of pediatric clients will help me track and foretell patterns of behavior in
children that in turn will help me implement the appropriate nursing
interventions.
