Corpus Christi

The summer is here, and with it, the many events

and activities that make our lives more enjoyable and
bearable after the dark and cold winter. We have the
opportunity to go out in this nice weather and enjoy
our time with family and friends, maybe sports or
social activities. This is good, and we should look for
every opportunity to nourish our relationships with
one another. It is sad, however, to hear that the
summer becomes a list of reasons to miss mass or to
forget about the true nourishment of our spirit.
The gospel this weekend speaks of Jesus
compassion towards the people that followed him, and
he didnt want to dismiss them without feeding them
first. We know that the Feast of the Most Holy Body
and Blood of Christ is the celebration of the food
given to us for eternal life. We die if we dont eat and
drink from it.
The affirmation of the spiritual life does not have
to be the negation of physical life. They are
complementary. Both are great blessings and both
carry great burdens and responsibilities when and if
we want to do what is best. For example, if a parent
cares so much about a childs success in sports, this
parent would not take the child to a sport event
without first eating breakfast.
Family life, fun, social connections, and personal
successes are important, but none of that happens
truthfully if we are not properly nourished. If we miss
mass because of any of these reasons, we are not
doing what is most important. Life does not mean
getting ready for a soccer game, for a family party or
for a competition of success. We are invited to
something much greater! We are invited to treasure in
heaven. Do not go to a family gathering, a social or
fun event without having nourished your spirit. If you
eat and drink the body and blood of Christ, you will
see that the rest of your life is lived in abundance, just
as the Gospel says.

El verano ya esta aqu, y con el, muchos eventos y

actividades que hacen nuestras vidas mas alegres y
fcil de vivir despus de un invierno oscuro y frio.
Tenemos la oportunidad de salir en este bonito clima
y disfrutar nuestro tiempo con la familia y amigos,
quiz en los deportes o actividades sociales. Esto es
bueno, y deberamos aprovechar cada oportunidad
para fortalecer nuestras relaciones con los dems. Sin
embargo, es triste ver que el verano se convierta en
una lista de razones por las cuales no vamos a misa o
nos olvidamos del verdadero nutrimento de nuestra
vida espiritual.
El evangelio este fin de semana habla de la
compasin que Jess sinti hacia la gente que lo
segua, y no quiso que se fueran sin antes haberlos
alimentado. Sabemos que la fiesta de El Cuerpo y la
Sangre de Cristo es la celebracin de el alimento que
se nos da para la vida eterna. Moriremos si no
comemos este alimento.
La afirmacin de la vida espiritual no es la
negacin de la vida fsica. Mas bien, se
complementan. Ambas son grandes bendiciones y
ambas tienen grandes cargas y responsabilidades
cuando se quiere hacer lo mejor. Por ejemplo, cuando
un pap se preocupa por los deportes de su hijo, no lo
llevara a un evento deportivo sin haberle dado de
desayunar primero.
La vida familiar, la diversin, las conexiones
sociales y el xito son importantes, pero nada sucede
satisfactoriamente si no estamos propiamente
alimentados. Si dejamos de ir a misa por alguna de
estas razones, no estamos haciendo lo mas importante.
La vida no es prepararse para un juego, para una fiesta
familiar o para una competencia de xito. Estamos
hechos para algo mas grande. Estamos invitados para
la vida eterna en el cielo. No vallas a una reunin
familiar o a un evento social sin haberte nutrido tu
espritu a travs de la eucarista. Si comes y bebes el
cuerpo y la sangre Cristo veras que el resto de tus
actividades las vivirs en abundancia, justo como dice
el evangelio.
