Performance Focus [Cite the performance theme(s) from the course outline for your subject on which the lesson is focused.]
Lesson 5, Hypersensitivity reactions
Content Knowledge and Skills [Cite the course goal (s) that your lesson objectives are aligned with. Also, identify any essential content skills your students
will learn as a result of this lesson.]

a. Immediate & Delayed, Humoral and Cell-mediated

b. Humoral
i. Type 1: IgE antibody complexes with antigen (allergen) causing degranulation and release of vasoactive substances from
mast cells. Allergy and Anaphylaxis. Asthma, Urticaria.
ii. Type II: Cells e.g. erythrocytes, coated with specific antibody, phagocytosed/destroyed by macrophages- Antibody
dependent cell mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC). Transfusion reactions.
iii. Type III: Antigen-Antibody Immune complexes form, some blocking small vessels and otherwise causing tissue damage,
often with fixation of complement. Arthus reaction, serum sickness
iv. Type IV: sensitized T cells responding weeks later to antigen stimulus, response taking several hours to manifest e.g.
tuberculin sensitivity/test

Specific Objectives [What will students know, understand, or be able to do as a result of the lesson? Remember, objectives must be measurable.]
At the end of this lesson students should be able to identify all hypersensitivity reactions based on the given clinical symptoms.

Initiation [How will you help students connect with the previous lesson and/or their prior knowledge? How will you gain their interest in the lesson?]
The lesson will start with a video from clip from the Allegra which shows allergy to pollen during the spring. This will be used since pollen allergy is a type one
hypersensitivity reaction. This will help to connect the reaction to something that they would be familiar with.

Procedures ([List the activities that the students will participate in to facilitate their learning.]
1. In class clinical case discussions using familiar cases to for each hypersensitivity reaction
2. Questions will be shared on google circle in which each student will have to add their comment, comments will contribute to their course work grade.

Closure [How will you cause students to reflect on what they have learned?]
Lecture will conclude with digital flash cards; these will give students a chance to predict the type of hypersensitivity reactions based on the picture or questions
on the card.
Assessment of Student Learning [How will you determine whether the objectives were met?]
1. Questions will be shared on google circle in which each student will have to add their comment, comments will contribute to their course work grade
2. Online course test in a controlled environment at week 6
Strategies for Technology Integration [How will you integrate technology use in this lesson in order to enhance the learning experience of your students?]
Microsoft power point will be used as the major presentation tool, google drive will be used to share presentations while giving students the ability to comment
on posted materials. Google sharing option will be used to share you tube videos with material relevant to the course. Microsoft power point will also be used as
a tool to generate animations to explain processes

Follow Up Work
1. Questions will be shared on google circle in which each student will have to add their comment, comments will contribute to their course work grade

Resources (Materials and/or Equipment)

1. Google drive
2. Google share
2.Google circle
3. Whats App
4. Microsoft PowerPoint
5. Projector
6. Computer
7. YouTube
