Objective: to increase student awareness of his/her learning progress by independently

demonstrating critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. The purpose of
self-evaluation is to enhance clinical skill development.
Assignment: the student will submit weekly written Self-Assessments by the end of each week
and address the following:
1. Describe what you feel you did well in clinic today/this week
This week I was FINALLY able to effectively feel calculus and scale it off confidently
before attempting to get checked out. On the mandibular of one of my patients I only
missed one spot. I had another patient on Friday whom I only missed three spots on. It
was a MUCH needed confidence for me and I felt so excited to be able to both feel the
calculus and then also be able to adapt my instruments to remove it!

2. Describe what did not go well in clinic

I failed to observe and document several spots of MGI on my Friday patient.

3. How can I plan for improvement to meet these challenges the next time they present?
One of my instructors gave me a better idea of what to look for when it comes to MGI.
Next time I will go slower and use the tips she gave me to observe where the free gingiva
meets the attached gingiva, and then use my probe to accurately measure.

4. My clinical instrumentation and patient treatment goal(s) for the next clinic session is/are
This week I will be seeing my Case Type IV patient, whom I plan on checking in and
scaling with the cavitron and my sharp instruments. I will also be seeing my 4 sub
patient and will be attempting my subcomp on him. Lastly I will be seeing a patient
whom I began cleaning last term and hope to finish at this weeks appointment.
