Objective: to increase student awareness of his/her learning progress by independently
demonstrating critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. The purpose of self-evaluation is to enhance clinical skill development. Assignment: the student will submit weekly written Self-Assessments by the end of each week and address the following: 1. Describe what you feel you did well in clinic today/this week This week I passed my subcomp! I scaled a quadrant, plus two additional teeth on my 4/4 patient and only missed two spots. Definitely the most exciting moment so far this term for me. I feel like I am getting better at exploring, bettering at scaling and better at effectively removing calculus. I hope that I can continue to improve my skills and really finish the term strong.
2. Describe what did not go well in clinic
I spent an entire clinic session checking in my Case Type IV patient, got to scale one quadrant and then was supposed to have him back that afternoon to continue scaling. Well he never showed back up so now I have no Case Type IV and wasted a whole session on someone I will receive minimal points for. 3. How can I plan for improvement to meet these challenges the next time they present? I know I cannot control other people so Im not sure how I could have prevented or can prevent a similar situation in the future. However, as far as a plan to work on something, I would like to continue to work on my aspirating when I administer anesthesia. I am still shaking when aspirating but found this week that by keeping my arm tucked close to my side or resting it on the patients chest I shake much less. I plan to continue practicing these techniques with the goal of improving. 4. My clinical instrumentation and patient treatment goal(s) for the next clinic session is/are This week I will be seeing my 4/4 patient again. My plan is to finish him using the cavitron and hand scaling and then to perform laser gingival curettage on him. I will also be completing one of my patients from last term who was a 3. I will be hand scaling and
using the caviton on him and really concentrating on scaling over every surface while completing his treatment.
