Objective: to increase student awareness of his/her learning progress by independently

demonstrating critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. The purpose of
self-evaluation is to enhance clinical skill development.
Assignment: the student will submit weekly written Self-Assessments by the end of each week
and address the following:
1. Describe what you feel you did well in clinic today/this week
On Thursday I had a patient that no-showed on me for their afternoon appointment. It
took me about an hour, but I was able to find someone to come in for me. Even though I
was short on time, I was able to complete a full mouth set, chart existing restorations and
recession, and complete my patient by 4:30. I feel like I am improving with my time
management.

2. Describe what did not go well in clinic

The injections I gave to my Thursday morning patient were very uncomfortable to him. I
believe my rate was too fast and I inserted the needle deeper while administering the
anesthesia.

3. How can I plan for improvement to meet these challenges the next time they present?
I find that tucking my arm next to my body or resting it on the patient allows for more
stability and will probably help with the issue of penetrating past the proper depth and
angle. Next time I will also administer a tiny amount of anesthesia and wait a few
seconds before proceeding so that it is more comfortable for the patient.

4. My clinical instrumentation and patient treatment goal(s) for the next clinic session is/are

This week I am seeing my special needs patient again and hope to get her checked in. I
am also seeing the first of my two required re-evaluation, plan on hand scaling and using
the cavitron, and I also intend to do my nitrous formative.
