(b) Write a brief note on the risk associated with the survival of bacteria by forming spore

of bacterial cell present in the system and also draw the graphical representation of
bacterial growth pattern.
(d) If the bacterial cells count for a culture changes from 10 3 to 109 in 10 hours, find the
generation time of the bacteria.

(b) What is meant by adsorption isotherm? Explain various types of adsorption isotherm
models.
(c) Distinguish emission and absorption photometry used for contaminant analysis.

spectrometer.

5. (a) Write a brief note on Monod model of bacterial growth.


(b) An aerobic bioreactor, fed 1,000 mg/L glucose and containing E. coli, operated with a
6 hr retention period.
i.
Determine the specific growth rate of the E. coli in the bioreactor.
ii.
Determine the maximum mass of E. coli, if the Y = 0.49 mg VSS/mg glucose.
iii.
Determine effluent glucose concentration. Given, Ks = 4.0 mg/L glucose and
max= 3.0/hr.
iv. Determine the effluent glucose concentration with 1 hour retention period.
(c) What do mean by autotrophic, chemotropic and phototrophic bacteria? Give example.
