Even before I arrived to St. Joseph Parish in 2013 as

the associate pastor, I started interacting with Angie
Cevallos, our parish Administrative Assistant. Since then, I
have been grateful for the professionalism and generosity
with which she does her job. Angie, thank you for 11 years
of Christian commitment. You will be missed.
I invite everyone to express your gratitude to Angie
Cevallos, who retires as the parish Administrative Assistant
on June 30, 2016.

2013, ya interactuaba con Angie Cevallos, nuestra
Asistente Administrativa. Desde entonces he estado
agradecido por el profesionalismo y la generosidad con que
ella hace su trabajo. Angie, gracias por 11 aos de

Time has a way of getting away from us. It is
difficult to believe that I have been working at St.
Joseph for the past 11 years. When I was hired in
2005, the rectory lacked the technology needed to
keep up with todays everchanging world. There was also
a need for a bilingual employee
to assist the growing Hispanic
community.
I was originally hired to run
the Archdioceses mandated
Protecting Gods Children
Program as well as to update
the technology to allow for the
purchase of much needed
software for the parish. Up until
that time, most of the reports
were done manually and were
transmitted to the archdiocese
via postal service. Today 95% of the work we do is
done through the use of computers and using a
sophisticated software program to maintain our parish
census. Weve come a long way and Im happy to say
that I was part of implementing those changes.
As the pastor/leadership of the parish changed, my
job evolved into many different roles and
responsibilities.
Working at the rectory has provided a better
understanding of the operations/functions at the parish
and archdiocesan level. It has also given me the
opportunity to meet many parishioners whom
otherwise I would not have known.
As this journey ends and I start my next chapter, I
look forward to having the extra time to do the things
that my husband, Ruben, and I enjoy. We hope to be
traveling more often and have the opportunity to
spend more time with our youngest grandchildren
before they head off to college.

El tiempo tiene una manera de alejarse de
nosotros. Es difcil creer que he estado trabajando en
San Jos durante los ltimos 11 aos. Cuando fui
contratada en 2005, la rectora no tenia la tecnologa
necesaria para mantener el ritmo de
hoy. Tambin se necesitaba un
empleado bilinge para ayudar a la
creciente comunidad hispana.
Yo fui contratada originalmente para
ejecutar el programa Arquidiocesano
Proteger los Nios de Dios as como
para actualizar la tecnologa para
permitir la compra de software tan
necesario para la parroquia. Hasta ese
momento, la mayora de los informes
se realizaban manualmente y se
transmitieron a la arquidicesis a
travs del servicio postal. En la
actualidad, el 95% del trabajo que
hacemos se realiza mediante el uso de computadoras y
utilizando un programa de software sofisticado para
mantener nuestro censo parroquial. Hemos recorrido
un largo camino y me siento feliz de decir que yo fui
parte de aplicar esos cambios.
Con los cambios de prrocos y el liderazgo de la
parroquia, mi trabajo ha evolucionado en diferentes
roles y responsabilidades.
Trabajando en la parroquia ha facilitado una mejor
comprensin de las funciones en el nivel parroquial y
diocesana. Tambin me dio la oportunidad de conocer
a muchos feligreses que de lo contrario no habra
conocido.
Al terminar esta jornada, empiezo mi prximo
captulo, espero tener el tiempo extra para hacer las
cosas que mi esposo, Rubn, y yo disfrutamos.
Esperamos poder viajar ms a menudo y tener la
oportunidad de pasar mas tiempo con nuestros nietos
antes de que se vayan para la
universidad.

Reading Boot Camp at St. Joseph

St. Joseph faculty spent two days last week with
Sean Taylor, the Dyslexic Reading Sage, for Reading
Boot Camp training. The days were filled with fastpaced teaching and learning situations. Sean taught us
the handicraft of finger weaving Arizona scarves
which we have renamed Illinois Summer Scarves.
Our students successfully completed one week of
Reading Boot Camp. We started each day praising
God as we learned the words to several Christian
songs. Many students mastered making the
scarves. Fun projects, songs, movement, and
activities were mingled between the fluency and
language arts lessons.

Comenzamos cada da alabando a Dios como nosotros
aprendimos las palabras a varias canciones cristianas.
Muchos estudiantes dominaron el arte de hacer
pauelos. Proyectos divertidos, canciones,
movimientos y actividades se mezclaban entre la
fluidez y lecciones de artes del lenguaje.
