2016 MOTHERS DAY FUN RUN: REQUEST FOR SUPPORT
We write to humbly request you to join us in our 2016 Mothers Fun Run project for the cause of safe motherhood to
th
be held in Mzimba on Saturday, 8 October 2016.
Mothers Day Fun Run project is a Nation Publications Limited initiative hatched in 2005 to fundraise for the
acquisition of maternal and infant equipment for use in Government hospitals.
This years beneficiary of the project is Mzimba District Hospital and its surrounding health centres. In choosing a
hospital to benefit from the project, the maternal mortality rate is used and the district with the highest rating within
the chosen region is selected.
Please note that the project is executed on a rotational basis between the three regions and 2016 is a year to
fundraise for a district in the northern region of Malawi.
Data provided by Ministry of Health indicated Mzimba as the district to benefit from the project as it has one of the
highest maternal mortality in the northern region. A needs assessment carried out by the Mzimba District Health
Officer confirms the critical shortage of maternal and neo natal healthcare support in the various health facilities.
Attached is a brief description of the various partnership categories and a list of medical equipment required in in the
various health centres in Mzimba which we are mobilising resources for.

2016 RUNNING FOR MZIMBA

This year, the Mothers Day Fun Run goes to Mzimba District. Data provided by Ministry of
Health shows that Mzimba District has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the
Northern Region and faces a critical shortage of maternal and neonatal healthcare equipment
hence its selection as the beneficiary for this years project. Beneficiaries of the 2016 Mothers
Day Fun Run are: - Mzimba District Hospital (which acts as a referral hospital at district level)
