Composite Limitation.
Composite resins have Shown a considerable shrinkage during polymerization. Which presents a
problem when performing deep and wide direct restorations.
Indirect restorations are indicated in numerous cases or when there is a need for improving serial
restorations, occlusion, anatomy and interproximal contacts.

SHOP

After first visit the cavity preparation is left with only two substrates, enamel and composite wich
covers the dentin surface. Three aims are reached. Inmediate dentin adhesion, Block out of dentin
and Deep margin elevation is archieved in this moment.
As we can see in the image, Deep margin Elevation let us isolate perfectly when cementing.

Cementation Protocol.
Before cementation Composite is sandblasted and enamel is etched with orthophosphoric acid. Only
hydrophobic bonding is applied over composite and enamel.
Light curing hybrid composites are preferred because curing time is controlled and more colour
stability is accomplished

The low viscosity of a flowable composite is achieved by decreasing the filler concentration, which in
turn, increases the amount of resin and polymerization shrinkage. Increasing the percentage of filler
particles increases the viscosity, thereby decreasing the flow and polymerization shrinkage

It is also better to use a highly filled resin composite cement (at least 65% in volume) with a medium-high viscosity, because of its low thermal expansion coefficient and lower polymerization shrinkage. (1,2,3,4)

As the viscosity of these composites is very high, we need to heat the material when applying it to the
tooth to be used as an adhesive cement.
The cement layer should be as thin as possible for minimal shrinkage and better adaptation of the
restoration.
Various studies have verified adequate light transmission and conversion rates for light-cure composites under ceramic inlays/onlays with proper curing lights and exposure times. (5,6,7)

New Method.
Here introduce a new and easy method for cementation where no preheating composite is needed.
The composite SonicFill includes a patented high filling resin and special modifiers that react to the
sonic energy.
The use of the Sonicfill is enough to obtain a good quality viscosity for cementation.
The sonic energy is applied through the handpiece and the viscosity decrease is up to 87%.
On the other hand this composite like the new Bulkfill composites has a high depth of curing. So it is
more reactive and 5 mm photo cured composite can be archieved (98% cured) 8. This advanta- ge
guarantee better results when polymerization through the restoration and ensure an easier conversion.The SonicFill composite has a high fill weight (83.5%)
More investigation are needed to evaluate this material as high filled composite cement.
