PART ONE:
Organization chosen: CanTeen
History: CanTeen was first established in 1985, by cancer patients who
wanted to help support other cancer patients who were suffering. It soon
became clear that more people in the community were in need of the
support that CanTeen provided, so the organization grew to expand out to
support people who had cancer (but may or may not be patients) as well as
their families who were with them through the struggle. Today they have
many events such as bandana day and youth cancer support.
Who they support: Canteen supports teens that are suffering from
cancer and finding it difficult to cope with. They also support the family and
other close people to those suffering from cancer.
How they assist people: They provide information and online services
relating to cancer and how to deal with it for teen suffering form it.22
These services are offered free to anyone in Australia. They also provide
support donations and face-to-face support to patients as well as their
families.
How individuals can help: Volunteers are greatly appreciated even if you
only give an hour or two of your time per week. Volunteers do stuff such as
packing bandannas, cooking dinner and providing medical assistance. Its
easy to join all you have to do is fill out the volunteer form.

Introduction to the action plan:

Sing for the sick is a program dedicated and centered on singing and playing
musical instruments to raise funds that go towards helping teens suffering from
cancer. The help from community members, who decide to assist in raising
money or donating, supports the organization. It is also established to provide
free performances to sick teens for entertainment, as a distraction from their
everyday life dealing with being sick with willing volunteers and well-known
artists performing.

Aim/objective:
The aim of this organization is to creatively raise funds for sick teens while
providing a fun experience for people watching and donating, those
volunteering, and teens suffering. It is mainly aimed at benefitting the cancer
patients by
a) Raising funds for them as well as awareness
b) Providing live music that can put a smile on their faces.

Mission Statement:
Give hope to our future.

Relating Gospel Passage:

Matthew 10:8
Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out
demons. Freely you have received; freely give.
This passage relates to my organization as it is centred on helping people out of
the kindness of your heart, and doing your part to make someone feel better and
hopefully cure them of illness.

Catechism:
1937: These differences belong to God's plan, who wills that each receive what he
needs from others, and that those endowed with particular "talents" share the
benefits with those who need them. These differences encourage and often oblige
persons to practice generosity, kindness, and sharing of goods; they foster the
mutual enrichment of cultures
This relates to my mission statement as it explains that we are asked by God to
share our belongings with those who need them more than we do, and to share
our talents with those who need them. In the case of this organization this
would involve sharing ones musical talent to make others happy as well as
donating money to somewhat help someone else.

Action

Funding sources:
Donations made by the community are the main source of funds. The company
will begin as a free service until it grows and will be kept as a free service later
on into the organization.

Staffing:
Staffing will include a small group of leaders that will run the program and sort
through any donations etc. Below them are people who frequently come and
perform and are considered a main member of the organisation. Below that are
volunteers who help as they please.

What are you going to do?

We are going to gather volunteers and pick songs and compositions as a team to
practise. Volunteers will then visit sick teens in hospital and play for them, as
well as any well-known artists that we can call and ask to come for the day and
sing. We will also have fun-days to raise money to donate straight to Westmead
to go towards curing sick teens.
How are you going to do it?
We are going to advertise the new business with flyers around schools and
music schools near around the area of Westmead hospital. We will have contact
details set up online for inquiries so that it easier for people to query about
getting involved or families of sick teens who want to request a visit.

Target:
What are you expectations for your organization?
I expect this business to start off small and focus specifically on Westmead
hospital but expanding to being situated in numerous locations close to
different hospitals. More volunteers will get involved and more fun-days will
occur, increasing in size and popularity; as well as bring in more donations for
the numerous hospitals. As more volunteers come to help out, the organization
with branch out to more hospitals, eventually being situated around the whole
country.

Expected Results:
How do you measure your success?
By the amount of money we raise as well as the reactions from sick teens and
their families who view live performances from the organization as well as
seeing the donations go towards helpful research and cures. Seeing them
smiling & happy indicates that the organization has brought a smile to their
day.
