Press Release

On the 27th day of July 2010, at approximately 2345 hours, the Franklin County Sheriff’s
Office received a call from the family of Donald Mock concerning his being overdue
from mullet fishing. Mock, a resident of Perry, Florida, is the son of Donnie and Betty
Ruth Mock of Carrabelle.

The Sheriff’s Office, Waterborne Response Team deployed to the Carrabelle City Boat
Ramp on Marine Street where the boat was launched and the search began. The Sheriff’s
Office Response Team along with three boat teams of family members, Donnie Mock,
Ronald Mock, Jeremy Owens, Jackie Owens, Robert Murray, Billy Owens, Shannon
Brannan, and Shawn Brannan, The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission
and United States Coast Guard Boat and Helicopter Search and Rescue Teams, searched
the area of Apalachicola Bay, and St George Sound between Carrabelle and Dog Island
for the missing boater.

Mr. Mock was located, without injury, at around 0540 hours, just east of the entrance to
the Carrabelle River clinging to the net that he had been fishing. Mr. Mock stated that he
had been mullet fishing on Dog Island and that squalls earlier in the evening had made
the bay very rough. Mr. Mock continued saying that he had maneuvered to the West end
of the island where he attempted to cross to the mainland when his vessel took a swell
over the bow and then one over the stern and went down.

When Mr. Mock was located he was assisted onto the Sheriff’s Office patrol boat and
taken back into the river to the City Ramp and there reunited with a very joyful and
relieved family.
