Prerequisites for Installed Software
Before you start installing Citrix Presentation Server™ 4.5, you should read the Pre‐Installation
Update Bulletin, the Citrix Presentation Server‐Readme file and the Installation documentation. You
can use the file Read_ME_First.html under http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX113690 to access the
complete documentation set on the Web. Alternatively, you can also access the documentation at
any time by visiting http://support.citrix.com/docs/
The Autorun setup program normally installs almost all the non‐Windows system requirements such
as the Java Runtime Environment, the .NET Framework version and Microsoft Visual J#. Windows
system requirements that are available on the operating system CD or which need to be configured
as roles are not installed. The Setup program likewise does not perform any preinstallation
configurations on the server such as specifying the terminal services roles, enabling IIS, etc. In
addition, the system requirements must be installed and configured in a very specific sequence.
Before you install any system requirements, including .NET 2.0., for example, Citrix recommends that
you remap server drives, if required. More information on the proper installation sequence for the
system requirements can be found in the Installation Checklist on the server CD.
Prerequisites for the Installation
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (with Service Pack 1 or 2) as Standard Edition, Enterprise Edition and
Datacenter Edition with the components:
• Terminal server
• Terminal server licensing
• Internet Information Server (IIS) with ASP.NET
Installation on a Windows Domain Controller is not supported.
Preparing the Environment for Deployment
1. Read the Installation Checklist for Citrix Presentation Server on the Server CD to ensure that the
computer is ready for the product installation. The system requirements for every component
can be found in the Installation Checklist. More information on the "Installation Checklist" is
provided on page 17 of the Server Administrator manual.
2. Before you install any system requirements, including .NET 2.0., for example, Citrix recommends
that you remap server drives, if required. More information on "Remapping Server Drive Letters"
can be found on page 49 of the Server Administrator manual.
3. Install the database software and create the farm data store.

Before installing Citrix Presentation Server, you must choose and install a database product to
serve as your farm data store. The data store contains persistent configuration information about
all servers in the farm. All servers must be able to reference this configuration information. When

using Microsoft Access, the data store database is created when you install Citrix Presentation
Server. It is most appropriate for small to mid‐sized farms.
Setup
Start the "Autorun.exe" on the Citrix Presentation Server CD.
Review the Installation Checklist and verify that all system requirements are satisfied. Then select the
item "Product installations and updates".
You can now remap the drive letters

on the server under "Remap Drives".
After the drive letters have been successfully remapped, the system must be restarted.

Installing Citrix Licensing
Restart the "Autorun.exe" on the Citrix Presentation Server CD. Select "Product installations and
updates" again and then "Install Citrix Licensing".
Scroll down to the bottom of the license agreement window and then confirm this agreement. In the
window that follows, make sure once again that the system requirements are satisfied before clicking
"Next" to continue. Do not change anything in the selection window for the components and simply
click "Next".

The selected components such as the J2SE Runtime will now be installed.
This is followed by the setup for Citrix Licensing.
On clicking "Next", a dialog box to select the target folder appears.

When you confirm this with "Next", the Citrix Licensing functions are offered for selection.
Click "Next" without changing the selected items here, and

then confirm the storage location for the license files as well by clicking "Next" again.
Now select your Web server, which will usually be Microsoft IIS, and then click on "Next" again. In the
following dialog box, select "Restart Microsoft IIS Server".

After a final confirmation, the installation process begins,
and the selected functions are now installed.

Click on Finish to complete the installation of Citrix Licensing.

Now select the menu item "Install Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 and its components" from the Setup
screen.

Scroll down to the bottom of the license agreement window and then confirm this agreement. In the
window that follows, make sure once again that the system requirements are satisfied before clicking
"Next" to continue. Do not change anything in the selection window for the components and simply
click "Next".
Confirm the prompt the license server with “Next” without making any changes.

After this, if the Microsoft .NET Framework is not yet available on the server, it will first be installed.
This is followed by the installation of the Access Management Console.
On confirming this screen with the "Next" button, the components are offered for selection.

When you confirm these components by clicking "Next", the component list is displayed again.
After a final confirmation with "Next", the installation of the Access Management Console begins.

The successful completion of the installation is then displayed, and you can exit the procedure with
"Finish".
After this, the unattended installation of Visual J# .NET 2.0 occurs. The following installation of the
Citrix Web Interface again requires user input.

As far as possible, leave the storage location for the common components unchanged.
And also leave the default selection for the installation of the clients as displayed.

In the next dialog box, confirm the selection and start the actual installation by clicking "Next".
After the selected functions of the Citrix Web Interface have been successfully installed, the
confirmation window appears.

After you click "Finish", the installation dialog for the Presentation Server is started.
Here too, the selected components and default storage location should be left unchanged.

You should also leave the default entry for the server address unchanged,
and only change the passthrough authentication setting to "No".

In the next dialog, select "Create a new farm", since this will definitely be the first server.
Now name the farm. If you selected the Access Database at the beginning, this selection remains
unchanged.

The next step is to select the login credentials for the farm administrator.
The IMA encryption can be left disabled.

Now enter the host name of the Citrix License Server. As a rule, this is the name of the local machine,
since you also installed the License Server here earlier.
If you have not yet installed any licenses, then do this in the next dialog.

In the following dialog box, also leave the setting to "Allow shadowing of user sessions on this server"
unchanged.
Likewise, the default port setting for the Citrix XML Service should be retained.

If you want to add all configured users to the group of remote desktop users, then leave the next
dialog box unchanged. It makes more sense to add the users later.

You now have the option of checking your settings once again before you click "Finish" to start the
actual installation of the components.
You must respond to the prompt to change the security settings with "Yes" so that Microsoft IIS can
access the virtual scripts directory.
All product components will now be installed. When this has completed successfully, you will see the
following dialog box.

You have now successfully completed the installation of Citrix Presentation Server 4.5.

The installation wizard for the Management Console for Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 then appears.

On clicking "Next", the component selection is dropped in this case, and you are taken directly to the
dialog box to start the installation.

On completion of this process, a confirmation message to indicate that the installation was
completed successfully appears, and you can click "Finish" to exit this screen.
The next component to be installed is the Citrix Presentation Server Document Center.

The target folder again remains unchanged,
and after the system has been updated, this component will also have been successfully installed.

Finally, a system update is performed,
and the process ends with a summary of the installation.

On restarting the server again, your Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 will be ready for operation.
You can then install any patches or updates, if required.

Configuring and Running Discovery
When you start the Citrix Access Management Console for the first time, the "Configure and Run
Discovery" wizard runs automatically. After the Welcome screen, click "Next"
and leave the selection of components unchanged. Then click "Next" again.

Now add your own server to the list and click "Next".
Add your own server to the list of servers with Citrix Presentation Server as well. Your selection will
then appear on the following page.
On clicking "Next", these settings are applied,

and the Citrix Access Management Console is opened.

Licensing
The next step is to set up a connection to a License Server. In this case, you have installed the License
Server on the same machine. Now select "Licensing" in the left pane of the Citrix Access
Management Console.
Under "Common Tasks", select the function "Add shortcut to license server" and enter the name of
the server in the following dialog box. Confirm this with "OK".

You can now check the active licenses by selecting the license server and then clicking on the option
"Launch License Management Console on server" in the "Tasks" area below.
In the License Management Console, select "View Current Usage Data".

This displays an overview of the installed and used licenses.
Citrix Presentation Server is now fully operational.
