Family background:
I have many family members in my family. Whether we live and work together or
not depends on the need for us in the particular cell.
About me:
I provide energy to the cell where I live in. I make the actions of the cell possible.
I am an organelle in the cytoplasm of the cell and have two membranes of my
own. My outer membrane is quite smooth while my inner membrane has folds
called cristae. The space in my inner membrane is called the matrix. I combine
food with oxygen on the cristae and that is where the energy is produced. Most
chemical reactions in the cell happen in me. I have my own DNA. I have an
important job in a cell. The cell cannot function properly without me.
