Preparation for one block:

A. Cut one 3 ½” square of striped “thread” fabric.

3 1/2” sq.

B. Cut two 2” x 3 ½” rectangles of brown “wood grain” fabric and,

C. Cut four 2” squares of brown “wood grain fabric.

2” sq. 2” sq. 2” sq. 2” sq.

D. Cut two 2” x 6 ½” rectangles of background fabric (beige, ivory, tan or ecru)

Directions for one spool block:

Using two 2” wood grain squares (C), mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of the fabric.

Position a square on the end of a 6 1/2” background rectangle (D). Stitch on the line you marked to secure the square to
the rectangle. Repeat for the opposite corner.

Press away from the background fabric and trim seams to ¼”. Make 2 from each spool print.

Sew a striped print rectangle (A) to each end of the 3 1/2” sq. of wood grain fabric (B).

Arrange rows as show below and sew together. Block should measure 6 1/2” square.

Example of fabric needs for 16 blocks:

(A) Thread—one fat quarter striped fabric cut into 16 squares 3 1/2” each.

(B) & (C) Spool fabric—1/2 yard brown fabric cut into 32 rectangles 2” x 3 1/2” and 64 squares 2” each.

(C) Background fabric—1/2 yard BITE fabric (Beige, Ivory, Tan or Ecru) cut into 32 rectangles 2” x 6 1/2”.
