Explore possible solutions to the design problems. Analysis will be done on the system through
examination of the sub-systems. Possible solutions will be compiled into a morphological chart and then
evaluated through a decision matrix.

The system has several important functions that it must perform:

y covement
y Excavation
y ºnput/Output of regolith into the hopper
y —ommunications
y Ôensing (hopper, pos. of parts and robot positions)

3 = very important 3 = good
Each piece of the morphological chart has been evaluated using the given number system. These values
are then totaled and a significant value is calculated. This allows the team to analyze exactly which parts
would go together to make the most efficient design. The pieces with the highest significant value do
not have to be used in the final design, due to different complications with funds, time, or just the
complexity of parts.

Using the highest rated parts from the morphological chart, different concepts were created. cany
concepts can and where thought of, but three main ideas are shown below

As before with the evaluation of the different parts, each conceptual design was given a significant
value, depending on different factors. The wheel and track designs came out on top with the highest
scores. As a team it was decided to use the track design with a hopper as the final design.
