CELLS TO TISSUES

Cells of the same

type group
together to form a
tissue.

Tissues are made

up in a similar way
They can be
several layers
thick.
Different tissues
work together to
form organs.

The heart is an
important organ
which pumps
blood. It is made
up of muscle
tissue and nerve
tissue.
Groups of organs
work together to
form organ
systems.

The heart is part of

the circulatory

Plant cells are grouped together to form tissues, organs and organ systems
ORGANISM
All the systems combine to form an organism a plant
or an animal.

CELL THEORY
The Cell Theory is one of the foundations of modern
biology. Its major tenets are:

 All living things are composed of one or more

cells.

 The chemical reactions of living cells take place

within cells.

 All cells originate from pre-existing cells.

 Cells contain hereditary information which is

CELL
 In unicellular organisms different organelles of the cell perform
different functions.
 The body of a multicellular organism comprises of a large number of
cells.
 These cells are specialized in structure and
function in order to perform different functions.

TISSUE
A group of similar cells arranged together in a
characteristic manner to perform a special function is
called tissue.
Example: Muscular Tissue

MUSCLE
ORGAN
Different tissues combine and function together as a
unit called organ.
Example: eye, liver, etc.

ORGAN SYSTEM
When many organs work together for certain major
activity, such a group of organs is termed as organ
system.
Examples: kidneys, ureter, urinary bladder and urethra
constitute excretory system.
