Writing – An article
 
Before  you  begin  any  piece  of  writing  there  are  six  KEY  aspects  to  think  about.  
   Why  am  I  writing?  
 Who  am  I  writing  to?  
 What  is  the  best  style  to  write  in?  
 What  points  should  I  include?  
 How  should  the  piece  of  writing  be  organized?  
 How  will  the  target  reader  feel  after  reading  it?  

An  article  is  a  piece  of  writing  on  a  particular  subject  in  a  newspaper,  magazine  or  
journal:  

Organisation  and  presentation  

• Clearly  introduce  the  subject  that  will  be  discussed  in  the  article.  
• The  main  text  should  be  clearly  divided  into  paragraphs  with  one  topic  
discussed  in  each  paragraph.  
• Conclude  the  article  with  a  brief  summary.  
Language  

• Use  the  relevant  language  of  the  level  as  required  

• Accurate  spelling,  grammar  and  punctuation  is  expected.  
• Cohesive  devices,  discourse  connectors,  linking  expressions  should  be  used.  
Style  and  register  

• The  style  and  register  will  depend  on  where  the  article  will  be  published.  
• Style  and  register  should  be  consistent.  
 
Task
Write  an  article  for  an  international  magazine  with  the  title  “Learn  a  new  
language”.  Give  your  opinion  on  the  best  ways  to  learn  a  foreign  language.  Say  
what  you  have  done  personally  and  how  it  has  helped  you.  

Around  200  words.
