The major impediment to child survival in the developing world
include infections, parasitic diseases, malnutrition and the risks associated with low birth weight and high fertility. This proposal seeks to address a serious malnutrition problem in children in the rural villages of Nsukka in Enugu State. To address this problem, a community-based mothers and infant centre called ‘’Healthy Mothers for Healthy Kids” (HMHK) will be established. It is apparent that mothers do not have an understanding of how to provide good nutrition to their children most especially in the rural areas. This has posed a significant greater chance of survival during the first 3 years of life. The proposal seek to achieve its purpose by making use of volunteers to provide community service and can be capitalized upon as a viable way to provide trained manpower for the offering of educational services. These volunteers shall be drawn from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
