Background
Based on results obtained from PMs the motor acceptance/rewinding is planned, while
based on condition based maintenance the bearing replacement
/mechanical repair is planned.
It is noticed that the rate of failures due to CBM is increasing (i.e. requirements for
bearing replacement or actual failures) indicating that with repeated overhauls of a
particular motor over the operating lifespan resulted in deterioration of the mechanical
characteristics of the motor such as bearing housing clearance. The impact of such
deterioration is a reduced MTBF of such motor.
Objective
The objective of this study is to identify the bad actors that repeatedly fail and eliminate
them. The methodology suggested for this purpose is a statistical modeling relating the
MTBF with number of overhauls endured for each motor.
Data source
The historical data for LV motors failures are retrieved from Maximo.
Criteria
The statistical model shall show the percentage of motors that are conforming to each
criterion
An overhaul is then considered acceptable if more than 80 % of the motors are having
MTBF ≥ 5 years
The final conclusion of the study would be to identify the maximum number of overhauls
to be permitted after which the motor shall be planned for replacement.
