DESIGNING THE PUBLIC PASSAGE

The aim of urban development using this passage design is to provide easy
movement facilities for the people in the city. The view of a bad traffic and
people crossing streets not in the right places are the indicators of a non-
responsive public place to public needs.

Related to the importance of a linkage system at the centre of the city, the design
is directed to relocate the old functions and putting in new activities to adjust the
demands of the urban people needs. The potential of existing function, which
appears as a culinary destination with strategic location made the redesign of
Toko Roti dan Kue soes Merdeka focused on how to increase comfort pedestrian
circulation and recreation for human activities. The use of pedestrian bridge in
front of it is aiming to unite the passage as well as facilitating the pedestrian
needs.

The goal of this thesis is to increase the quality of existing public place with a
passage that accommodates people needs well so they are no longer depend on
vehicles to transport. Hopefully, with this passage design on a private property,
the public needs gets more attention in order to create, a save, comfort and
humane routines in a city.
