INNOVATION: A Catalyst for Progress

Just as energy is the basis of life itself and ideas the source of innovation, so is innovation the
vital spark of all human change, improvement and progress.

Creativity is thinking up new things. INNOVATION is doing new things. Innovation is the
process of turning ideas into manufacturable and marketable form. Innovation comes from
the Latin innovationem, noun of action from innovare. Innovation can therefore be seen as
the process that renews something that exists and not, as is commonly assumed, the
introduction of something new.

Since the stone ages, it is the creative ideas and innovations that have brought about a
change in the standard of living. The use of fire improved the standard of food and the
wheel reduced the time and effort of travelling. And the trend continues to this day. The
life we lead now is itself a utility of inventions. Right from the toothbrush to the ultra-
modern gadgets that we carry to communicate or work on applications and games, we
have every facility that is a product of ages of experiments to deliver a final product of
innovative thoughts. With every creative idea that underwent practical implementation,
our lives have taken a new step forward. Telephone was the invention but mobile phones
were the innovations and although both serve the same purpose, the portability feature of
a mobile phone makes its utility far more desirable. We have evolved with every
invention, but we have progressed with every innovation. It is only the imagination of
human minds that has enabled the race to travel the dimension of progress.

By definition, Innovation will not be accepted at first. It takes repeated attempts, endless
demonstrations and monotonous rehearsals before innovation can be accepted and
internalized by an organization. This requires 'courageous patience'.
