ABOUT THE OFFICE OF TECHNOLOGY AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

One of the focuses of the OTBD is to develop early stage technologies to a stage that
they can overcome commercially relevant barriers and thus be more attractive to poten-
tial commercial partners. To that end, the OTBD of MSSM has negotiated licenses that
have resulted in 15 products coming to market and more than a dozen technologies
in preclinical or clinical development. In addition, 11 companies have been founded on
MSSM technology, seven of which have been acquired or gone public. In 2009, Mount
Sinai received over $25M in royalty & licensing revenues from products originated by
Mount Sinai investigators, placing it within the top 10% revenue-generating schools in
the nation according to the annual AUTM survey.

As part of this focus, OTBD is seeking partnerships with drug discovery companies and
investors to identify lead compounds to biologic targets identified at MSSM but which
may not be pursued in the absence of a technology development program.
