‡ A @ @@is a circuit that provides power with the
characteristics required by the load from a primary power
source with characteristics incompatible with the load. It
makes the load compatible with its power source.
‡ A
 @ @@is a power
supply that provides the power supply function through
low loss components such as capacitors, inductors, and
transformers and the use of switches that are in one of
two states, on or off.
ADVANTAGES OF USING SMPS
‡ Greater Efficiency through use of low
loss components
‡ Light weight
‡ Small size
‡ Lower heat generation

‡ Output voltage- Any voltages available, limited only by
transistor breakdown.
‡ Efficiency,heat &power dissipation-Output is regulated
using duty cycle control; the transistors are switched fully
on or fully off, so very little resistive losses between input
and the load. The only heat generated is in the non-ideal
aspects of the components and quiescent current in the
control circuitry.
‡ Components- Consists of one or several power
transistors and diodes as well as a power transformer,
inductors, and filter capacitors

‡ Simulink model has been designed

‡ Simulation results to be tested
‡ Scope for hardware implementation in
future
