My Short Essay Regarding Jaeyoun Kim’s Short Essay About The Philippines

Filipinos were experiencing poverty as Koreans were. It is because of the corruption held in the
Philippine government. But, according to Jaeyoun Kim’s “My Short Essay About the Philippines,” it isn’t
and I agree to that. We are lacking of that thing. What do Filipinos lack is the faith in raising up our
country. That is what we call PATRIOTISM.

In the Philippines, the word corruption cannot be removed especially while watching the
television or reading the news. Corruption is simply defined by the www.merriam-webster.com as an
impairment of integrity, virtue and moral principle, an inducement to wrong by improper or unlawful
means.

Our country suffers from loss of government revenues, teachers having the lowest salary,
classrooms without enough space, rapid population growth, unclean air, crimes and many more. We
also suffer because of the leaders who govern this country.

Now, let me share to you the news that was recently talked much. It is about the case of retired
AFP Major General Carlos Garcia. When he was on his service, his maximum salary price only rises to
Php 37,000 a month. It is very unbelievable to have Php 185 million of wealth after 11 years without
owning a permanent business or sideline. While he is experiencing luxurious life, the soldiers in the field
dies because of degraded quality of military equipments such as the Kevlar helmets. They are also
lacking of vehicles that could help in evacuating injured soldiers.

President Noynoy Aquino also had an issue of anomalous case regarding his third hand bought
2007 Porsche last January 2011. It costs Php 4.5 million. According to his spokesman, Edwin Lacierda,
the money came from P-Noy’s own pocket and not from the country’s budget. He bought that car to
relieve his stress in governing the Republic of The Philippines. What? You would experience luxury while
seeing your people die because of hunger? Or simply suffer from what we call POVERTY?

Discipline, respect and love are things that we lack. What if each one of us would always follow
the rules, know our limitations and obey the one who is above us? What if we change our inner self
from being the cancer of the society? Each one of us contributes to every result that takes place
whether it is for the betterment or for worse. What we need is to possess discipline and show respect
and love to our motherland as PATRIOTISM takes place.
