First Grade News

March 21– March 25, 2011

What we’re learning

Our Bible stories for this week are “The Parable of the Wicked Farmers” and
“The Parable of the Wedding Feast.” We will be reading “A Big Day for Jay” and
“Lost” in our basal reading books. In Phonics we are working on the long “a" sound (ai
and ay). Math will include measuring distances, subtracting a number from 10, and
identifying a dozen. In Language we are continuing our focus on adjectives.
For Science we are beginning our study of seasons.

Assignments
Here are some ways to challenge your child:
Math – When at the grocery store, identify products that come as a dozen or 1/2 a
dozen.
Reading – Compare and contrast one of the basal stories this week to your own
experience.
Christ Light – Jesus used parables to teach a truth about God and his kingdom. Think
of a truth you know about God (He always keeps his promises, He does
what is best for us, etc.) and create a parable that teaches that truth.

mail for specifics on our field trip to the Junior Museum and Zoo in Palo Alto on
March 24th.
• March book orders are March 25th.
• Apostles Pizza/Movie Afternoon is March 26th You are welcome to bring family
and friends to enjoy food, the jump house, and movies.
