B 135a L'avenir de la race germanique. Etude politico-philosophique. [1860's?]. Fragment.

IISG. 4 pp. 8°
B 136 Letters sur l'Allemagne. [Ca 1867]t. IISG. On Bismarck, Sadowa, German unity,
etc. The last paragraph announces the appearance of Das Kapital, vol. I. 2 pp. 4°
No date [written between the
Austro-Prussian War and the Franco-Prussian War, probably closer to 1870 then to
1866]. IISG.
Various variants in a state of disorder, arranged by the present writer, chiefly for
publication reasons, as follows:
1. [Variant A] Fragment. 8 pp. 4°, numbered (by Hess) into 5-9, 11-13.
2. [Variant A (1)] two scraps numbered (by Hess) 8, 11.
3. [Variant A (2)] one scrap numbered (by Hess).
4. [Variant B] 8 pp.4°, numbered (by Hess) 1-8.
5. [Variant C] 7 pp. 4°, numbered (by Hess) 1-7.
6. [Variant D], 10 pp. 4°, numbered (by Hess) 6-15, plus "Beilage 3" (1/2 p.).
7. [Variant E], 3 pp. 4° numbered (by Hess) 16-18. 8. Various fragments of different
variants. There are three to seven variants of certain pages. 40 pp. 4°, 13 inserted
slips.
Titles of variants vary. In some variants the words "liberté individuelle" or only the
word "individuelle" are omitted. One variant is entitled: "Heine et Boerne. Dialogue
dans une conférence spiritiste".
In a variant of p. 14 (in B 137/8) one reads: "Les allemands, jusqu'aux démocrates
In a variant of p. 18 (in B 137/8) it is said by "Heine" that "la même opinion est
Aucune".
On p. 18 of still another variant (also B 137/8) "Heine" adds: "Aussi ne sourait-on
No date [written
between 1866 and 1870, probably closer to 1870 then to 1866]. IISG. 15 pp. in 4°.
This is the only complete copy of the essay. Clear handwriting and relatively few
corrections. It seems to be the last variant of the essay. The MS (with relevant
extracts from other variants) will be published by the present writer.

A 12 did not appear. 3 pp. 8°

into French. Cf. B 134.

A variant of the preceding item. End missing.

Different from B 142 and B 143. On p. 5: "J'ai 60 ans e depuis 1842 j'ai presque

B 145 On the February Revolution in Paris. Brussels, February 28, 1848. IISG. 4 pp. 4°.
An unsigned draft on article for the Deutsche Brüsseler Zeitung. On p. 4 an ironical
annotation of F. Engels: "Meisterstück v. Moses Hess. Febr. Revol. 1848".
The last known issue of the Deutsche Brüsseler Zeitung is No. 17 (February 24,
1848) and it is available at the Bibliothèque Royale de Belgique. Hess' article was
obviously written for No. 18, which either never appeared or remains unknown.

pp. 8°.
Draft of a speech prepared by Hess for the Congress of the International in Basel.
There is no stenographic record of the Congress. In the official record of the
Congress Hess is mentioned in only one sentence. ( Association Internationale
Septembre 1869. Brussels, 1869, p. 72) The Vorbote IV (1869), 149 is not more
elaborate. It is therefore difficult to establish whether Hess really delivered the
speech as it is drafted in this MS.

Notes on philosophical, historical and political subjects, on the Franco-German
War, etc. The note of August 23, 1870, ends with an attack against the German
Jews ("diese elenden deutschen Hepjuden") because they sided with Germany
