NICHE PROGRAM: CHORAL SPEAKING

As required, every school in Bachok need to establish a niche program in their

own DAA’s class. With this program, every school need to come out with one
speaking/communication related activity that can be associated with their own
DAA class or area of specialty of their DAA class.

SK Bekelam has chosen Choral Speaking as its niche program to be introduced

to DAA’s pupils. Since the beginning DAA class, the pupils are doing mainly
speaking activities with the integration of reading, listening and writing activities.
We think that the pupils require more speaking ability as this program itself is
communicational in nature.

WHAT IS CHORAL SPEAKING?

Choral speaking requires a group of performers to orally interpret and recite or

speak from memory. Choral speaking is speaking in unison, usually under the
direction of a leader who can be likened to the conductor of an orchestra
because the performers’ voices play their parts like the various instruments.

The rationales of teaching choral speaking to pupils are:

 Choral speaking is effective teaching technique to teach young learners
children’s books
 Choral speaking activities can provide young learners with opportunities to
play with language
 Be familiar with the repeated rhythms and structure, the cadences and
conventions of the various forms of written language
 The recurring phrases or events can aid their understanding and memory
 Make it easy for students to remember the vocabulary and grammatical
structures contained in them
 Help pupils to be familiar with sound patterns and thus increase their
listening ability.
 Motivate the pupils to learn English language
